Leah

I was frozen in place.

Oh my god.

What are we suppose to do?

Hide? Get caught!?

Jace's eyes were trained on tall wooden door. The person trying to open door realized that it was locked. Hearing some rustling from behind the door, Jace grabbed my hand and pulled me off the desk in one swift move.

He placed a finger on his lips to signal silence and I nodded.

There was no way I was going to utter a word.

I would be totally stupid do that.

He pulled me towards the seating area across the room. There was a space behind the larger couch to hide against. We slid down hiding against it right before the door swung open.

Shit.

Our backs were pressed against the back of the couch, which luckily concealed us completely. Jace's knees were against his chest allowing me to have majority of the space.

I found it sweet even in this scary moment. I know, not the time.

Footsteps echoed the room, getting louder with every step. The person stood near the sitting area, their presence was too close. Too close for comfort. They sat on the couch that we were hiding against and started to sift through some of the paper on the table.

Jace and I froze in position, not moving an inch. Holding out breathes, careful to not make any noise.

"Where the hell did he put it?" The person muttered under their breathe in frustration.

That voice.

Nate.

My tense shoulders felt relief for a moment until I caught Jace's eyes and he shook his head.

I knew that meant I shouldn't let my guard down.

Nate let out a sigh and the sound of papers dropping on the table echo the room. He stood up from the couch and departing footsteps were heard.

But he only walked to the other side of the room. He was looking for something and by the sound of it, it was important.

"Did you find it?" Another voice filled the room.

Mr. Rylan.

"Nope." Nate answered. "I never know where you keep anything in this office."

"That's fine. You head back. I'll look for it." Mr. Rylan offered. "It's somewhere in here."

"I will take you up on that offer." Nate said. "But is really that important to search for it now?"

What where they looking for?

Did Jace and I miss it somehow?

"Yes. It's for one of the items in the auction. If I don't have it, I can't auction off the item."

"I can stay and help look." Nate offered.
