Memory Hole

There is a place deep within your mind
That you never want to set foot in,
Much less admit it exists.
This place you know full well
And your cronies know as well,
But have chosen to swear yourselves
Into a pact of forgetting.
It's called a memory hole,
And it's where you have buried into the past
All the promises and vows you've since disposed.
And it's at the deepest point,
So deep you don't recognize it,
Where I reside as a shameful piece
Of your glorious past you've since turned away from.

How you have left me in the lurch of progress,
To decide that your vows and high hopes for us
Were as valuable as a devalued currency
That I was left to hold on for you.
I did so, such was my stupidity,
Out of love and loyalty for you,
For which you rewarded me with treachery and grief.
You made me believe all of this, all we had together,
Was worth something to share our lives with,
But while I held on to you, you dropped me into the void
And promptly found a replacement, what shame!
And so you and your cronies,
Who I had come to trust as much as you did,
Swore into a pact of forgetting

Because you couldn't live with the betrayal you've done.
It must be ego, or it must be a game
For all of you to decide
To play me and the purity of my love
And turn the beauty of romance into an ugly fraud.
So you've gathered all the memories,
All the promises you fed me with
And dumped them all into your memory hole
Where no one will ever hold you accountable for them.
Your cronies, blinded by loyalty and cowardice,
Looked away when they knew I was suffering for you
While hand in hand you all rewrote history
To cover up the sacrificial lamb you made me into.
Now a beautiful doll house stands over your memory hole,
Where you live happily ever after with my replacement
And I reside at the bottom of your memory hole,
Clutching the broken promises you left behind.
