Age of Indifference

Go ahead, ridicule me all you want.

Insult me, keep drilling holes at me.

You know I don't talk back, and I won't.

And if I did, you always contradict me,

Always putting me in a bad light.

I'd grit my teeth and move on.

I've never been one for arguing,

Because I believe in the upper hand.

But you take it as weakness,

As I don't know how to defend myself.

So you keep on piling the pressure,

Satisfying your need for control,

And I let you get away with it.

I'm far too tired to call you out,

To tell you you've gone too far.

And to plead with you to stop it.

It seems all the cards have been used,

And we're just waiting for that brick wall

So we can crash and end it all.

It seems better to let it burn

So we can start afresh.

A way out is better now.

This face I'm putting on for you,

There's no happiness here.

All I have here is indifference

For I've lost the nerve

To be with you.

I'm living with this half-baked tolerance

That comes with no longer caring.
