Euodia:

As Azriel takes two bowls from the cabinet, the aroma of the hearty meal fills the air, stirring a growl in my stomach. I try to maintain a casual composure, but I can't help stealing glances at him as he fills the bowls. His movements are fluid and graceful, a stark contrast to the rugged masculinity of his appearance. When he turns around, I quickly straighten my posture, hoping to conceal my admiring gaze. However, the mischievous glint in his eyes tells me that his shadows have already informed him of my subtle scrutiny. Heat rushes to my cheeks, betraying my embarrassment, and I feel his amusement reverberate through the bond we share.

"Come on, I'd rather not eat here," he remarks, casting a disdainful glance at the kitchen table. Puzzled by his aversion to the table, I wordlessly follow him into the cosy sitting room. Azriel places both bowls on the small coffee table before settling onto the couch. He pats the cushion beside him, silently inviting me to sit closer. Despite the warmth in his gesture, I choose to maintain a distance, seating myself on the opposite end of the couch. Azriel shakes his head at my reluctance, but instead of pressing further, he extends his arm toward my ankles.

"May I?" he asks, his voice soft yet commanding. I nod silently, curious about his intentions. With gentle hands, he takes hold of my ankles, guiding my legs until they stretch over his lap. Leaning forward, he retrieves the bowls of food from the table and offers them to me. I accept them gratefully, the rumbling hunger in my belly overpowering any lingering reservations.

As I take a spoonful of the stew, the savoury flavours explode on my tongue, warming me from the inside out. It's a simple meal, but the care and attention Azriel has put into it makes it taste divine. I steal a glance at him, and for a moment, our eyes lock in silent understanding.

As we eat in companionable silence, the tension between us begins to dissipate, replaced by a sense of ease and comfort. The flickering flames of the fireplace cast dancing shadows across the room, creating a cosy ambience that envelops us like a warm embrace. Lost in the moment, I find myself relaxing into the cushions, feeling the weight of the day's trials slowly lift from my shoulders.

Azriel's presence beside me is a source of solace, his quiet strength a reassuring anchor in the tumultuous sea of emotions that swirl within me. With each passing moment, I feel a sense of gratitude wash over me, grateful for his unwavering support and understanding. As we finish our meal, I realise that despite the uncertainties that lie ahead, I am not alone.

Suddenly, the flickering flames of the fireplace flare brightly, casting dancing shadows across the room. I startle at the sudden change, instinctively kicking out and accidentally grazing Azriel's stomach. He remains unfazed, his attention focused on the loft above us.

"Don't start," he admonishes, his voice firm yet gentle. It takes me a moment to realise he's speaking to the house itself. As soon as the words leave his lips, the room is once again plunged into a serene ambience, the candles and rose petals vanishing as quickly as they appeared. However, the light from the fireplace dims mysteriously, casting a softer glow over the room.

"Sorry about that," Azriel apologises, turning his attention back to me. I realise that we've both finished our meal, and he offers to refill my bowl. I shake my head, declining the offer, and he proceeds to clear away the empty bowls. As he sets them down on the table, they vanish into thin air, a testament to the house's enchanting abilities.

Crafty indeed, I think to myself, marvelling at the magical prowess of the cabin. Despite the brief attempt at creating a romantic atmosphere, I can't help but feel grateful for the quiet simplicity of our evening together. With the distractions gone, there's a sense of intimacy that lingers between us, a silent understanding that transcends words.
