Chapter Seventeen

Rebekah and I walked into the living room to see both Klaus and Elijah reading. Klaus was on the couch with a book in his lap. Elijah the same but across the room, sitting in a brown armchair. Classical music surrounded the brothers in their weird bonding, by not bonding time. My eyes roamed over and stopped in shock, gasping as the sight of a dead body on the table. I gulped and walked over to Klaus.

"Hey," I whispered.

"Oh, hello, love," he smiled, leaning up and kissing me softly, deepening it for a few seconds and then letting go to kiss my belly. I chuckled at him and walked around to sit next to him, not daring to look at the girl again.

"So this is waht you do the first time we're back together as a family? Vampire book club," Rebekah said and I giggled, cuddling closer to Klaus who thankfully wrapped his arm around my shoulders to make it easier to snuggle into his chest.

"Reading edifies the mind, sister," Klaus muttered while staring down at the book. "Isn't that right, Elijah?" The rather sadistic smile on his face worried me. What in the world was wrong with him? It was too early in the day and Elijah just got back home.

"Yes. That's quite right, Niklaus," Elijah replied. "And morning Allison."

"Morning, Elijah," I smiled, waving at him before looking at my handsome boyfriend and running the back of my finger against the hair on his face.

"And what's this business?" Rebekah chimed back in, bringing back to her subject of what her brothers were up to.

"This is a peace offering," Elijah answered.

"I presumed, after so much time dessicating in a coffin, that my big brother might be a bit peckish," Klaus said and I raised an eyebrow.

"So I explained to my little brother that forgiveness cannot be bought. I'd simply prefer to see a change in behavior that indicates contrition and personal growth, not this nonsense," Elijah replied, gesturing to the dead body. I gulped again and looked at Klaus questioningly.

"I couldn't very well let her go to waste, could I?" Klaus questioned.

"Please get rid of it, it's making me sick," I whispered and he looked at me, frowning. He nodded and grabbed my chin, pecking my nose. He got up and grabbed the body which still had blood pouring from it's neck. I gagged and looked away as Klaus chuckled. I peered over his book and furrowed my brows. "I was angry with my friend. I told my wrath, my wrath did end," The first lines read.

I frowned and picked it up to continue reading. "I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow. And I'd watered it in fears, night and morning with my tears; And I sunned it with smiles, and with soft deceitful wiles. And it grew both day and night, til it bore and apple bright. And my foe beheld it shine, and he knew that it was mine, and into my garden stole when the night had veil'd the pole: in the morning glad I see my foe outstretch'd beneath the tree," I read the rest. Hmmm...Interesting choice.

"I hope Niklaus is taking good care of you," Elijah said.

"He is," I said, looking back at him.

"Are you happy?"

"Happy? As in?" I asked.

"With him, with the baby. Being here in this city."

"Klaus and I are very happy. And we're both excited about having this baby. And well, both Klaus and I already agreed that we wouldn't mind staying here. I mean, I want things to be worked out but it's not too bad. As long as no one is trying to kill me," I laughed and he gave me a soft smile, nodding back at me.
