Remedy

Even the driven miles of paved asphalt,
could not distance me from the hurt.
Anguish hitched a ride to churn my cogs,
needling me all the long way to work.

I know to wound was not your intent,
nor the pain that has hollowed me out.
The past is over and done with for sure,
but I can't help this feeling lingering about.

It stifles my day with suffocating breaths,
and pesters with idle thoughts that boil.
What's mine, wasn't mine, if but for a time,
though what matters most is the heart loyal.

This sullen mood will soon wrench no more,
at deep sanctuaries where it does not belong.
The daily toils will bring me home to my remedy,
the everlasting notes of our soothing love song.
