Nine hours. I've been suffering through contractions for nine hours now and I'm so close to being ready to deliver.

"Just a few more hours", that's what all the nurses are saying.

Alarms start going off, pulling me out of my nap.

It's the monitors hooked up to the twins.

Sirens and lights alert the nurses and doctors. An ultrasound is done immediately and nods are exchanged.

"What's going on? Are the babies okay?"

"We're going to break your water now."

"Why? What's going on?"

"Nothing. It's just a precaution. Please stay calm."

Oh hell no. You can't just tell me to stay calm! Of course I'm going to freak out!

Nate kisses my temple, whispering in my ear as he pulls away.

"It's all going to be just fine. Relax."

His words are a temporary bandage on my emotions.
