17- Lilly

I reread the message over and over.

I love you, babe. Can't wait to see you tonight.

I wiped another tear as I tried to quiet my sobs.

I heard a soft knock and my door shut.

I turned and saw Jesse standing there.

"Hey. Are you okay?"

I quickly wiped my face.

"I'm fine."

He sat next to me and wiped another tear.

"You're not fine, Lilly. I know we don't know each other, but you can talk to me."

"I miss John.", I cried as I showed him our last message.

"I know we have bigger problems than me missing my boyfriend, but I really miss him. I'm not even supposed to be here. I should be with him. I should be home."

I put my head in my hands.

He rubbed my back.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you. This has nothing to do with you and it shouldn't have happened to you."

I nodded as I wiped my tears.

"My word probably doesn't mean much to you, but I promise you that we are going to get out of here."

I smiled at his attempt to make me feel better.

I hugged him.

There was another knock at my door and then it swung open.

It was Josie, holding two giant gift bags filled with chocolate and hard candy.

"What is all of this?"

"Did you know there's a gift shop downstairs? Super expensive. $150 for each bag, but that's Malcolm's problem now.", she let out a dry chuckle as she flashed the debit card Malcolm gave her.

"You hate spending his money. Are you okay?"

"I just f-", she stopped and looked at me.

"Have you been crying?", she kneeled down in front of me.

I slowly nodded.

"I miss John."

"Oh, babe.", she said as she hugged me.

Jesse rubbed my back again.

"You're going to see him again.", he said.

I nodded. I looked at Josie and finally noticed her eyes were red.

"Jo, have you been crying?"

Her jaw clenched before she released it.

She slowly nodded.

"Malcolm cheated on me. I got sent a video of him in our bedroom with another woman."

I'm gonna kill him when we get out of him. Who the fuck does he think he is hurting my best friend like that?

I simply hugged her without saying a word.

"Is that why you're spending his money?"

She nodded.

"Let's see who'll sleep with him when he's broke."

We all broke into fits of laughter.

"Well, I guess now you can focus on you and what you want.", Jesse told her.

"What do you mean?"

He sighed.

"Josie, I really hate to say anything positive about Rocco, but I can tell he still means something to you. When we saw those videos, you looked so happy with him."

"Did you also see the video when he broke my heart? Besides, that was a long time ago. I don't feel that way about him anymore."

"Then why did you kiss him back?"

Josie shot a glare my way.

"I-I don't know why, okay? But enough about me."

She grabbed my hand.

"Lilly, I don't think I ever apologized for getting you in this mess. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I'm sorry that you're separated from John and w-."

"You used his debit card.", Jesse said. He began staring at us.

"Yeah, what is it?"

"Jo, you used his debit card. You used his debit card!"

I looked at him, bewildered, until it hit me. Our eyes widened.

"I used his debit card."

I flashed her a smile.

"We can get home."
