Varian stares up at the moon as he waits for Misty to return. But when she doesn't come back after nearly twenty minutes, he isn't sure whether to feel concerned or irritated.

"She was so worried about being up here this long, I'll bet she just left me," Varian says to Ruddiger with a sigh. "And she kept my bandana! Looks like we're on our own again, buddy."

But as he attempts to devise a plan of what to do now, he hears a scream nearby. Could that be Misty? Startled, Varian abandons the driftwood and swims toward the scream. Ruddiger trails behind him, paddling as fast as he can to keep up.

Ahead, Varian sees the figure of a large ship. It is dimly illuminated by the flames of scattered torches and candles on deck, and he believes he sees the image of a skull and crossbones on the flag hanging from the mast.

"Pirates," he whispers worriedly to Ruddiger. The two of them instinctively duck lower into the water, hoping they won't be seen as they swim closer to the ship.

"Please, let me go!" Varian hears Misty's voice say from somewhere on the ship.

"Quit your yappin'," a deep, rough voice replies. "You ain't goin' nowhere! You'll fetch a hefty price."

Varian gasps. "This is all my fault," he whispers to Ruddiger. "She wouldn't be in this situation if I hadn't asked her to help me." His face hardens in determination. "I have to save her!"

Ruddiger's eyes widen, and he chitters nervously.

"Shhh," Varian warns, glancing at the deck above to make sure no one heard the raccoon. "Be quiet while I come up with a plan. First, we've got to get onto that ship..."

Ruddiger rolls his eyes, but then spots a rope hanging above them, attached to the ship. He climbs up the side of the ship, and drops one end of the rope down to Varian.

"Great idea, Ruddiger!" Varian says. He climbs up the rope, relieved to finally be out of the water. But his relief is short-lived when he sees Ruddiger's nervous face, and remembers that they are climbing aboard a pirate ship...
