Eyepatch and Nose Ring grab Varian by his arms. "No, let me go!" Varian shouts, struggling to break free from their grip as they drag him away from Misty.
"Varian!" Misty shouts after him, distraught.
"Don't forget his pack," the Captain tells his crew.
Still holding Ruddiger by the scruff of his neck with one hand, Green Bandana grabs Varian's backpack. He tries to take a peek inside it, but Ruddiger uses his hind legs to kick it out of his hand. The backpack falls onto the deck, spilling some of its contents. One vial rolls directly towards Varian, stopping at his feet. Reacting swiftly, he stomps on it, breaking it open. A thick cloud of fog billows around them, causing the startled pirates to release Varian and begin coughing.
Remembering when he used this fog to help stop Eugene and Stalyan's wedding, Varian drops to the ground where he can see more clearly. He crawls along the deck, being sure to avoid the feet of the pirates scrambling around blindly to find him.

"Keep him away from the mermaid!" The Captain commands angrily.
"Not a chance," Varian whispers to himself with a smirk. He spots his backpack, grabs it, and throws it onto his back. He then crawls over to Misty's tank, where he finds Ruddiger already there waiting for him.
"Glad to have you back, buddy," Varian says, patting the raccoon on the head affectionately.
"Varian, is that you?" Misty whispers. "I can't see anything."
"Just hold on, I'm getting you outta here," Varian tells her. The fog is already starting to thin out, so he knows he doesn't have long. He stands up to open the top of the tank, but he discovers that the lid is sealed shut. "Oh great! What do I do now?"
"Get to the mermaid!" The Captain continues to shout.
"We can't see where she is!" Eye Patch replies.
With the fog getting thinner and thinner, Varian's mind races. He pounds on the side of the tank with his fists, but the glass is too thick for him to break. However, this causes him to recall something that he hopes is still in his backpack. He pulls it off, digs through it, and triumphantly removes a vial full of blue liquid. "Yes, it's still here!"
"What is it?" Misty asks, now able to see him through the fog.
"It's a compound I created that gives the consumer enhanced strength for a brief time," Varian explains quickly.
"Look, there he is!" Green Bandana shouts from across the deck, pointing at Varian as the fog finally floats away.
"Gotta do this quick," Varian says. He downs the liquid without hesitation, ignoring the horrible taste. He balls his hands up into fists, wondering if his compound worked. But as the pirates draw closer, he realizes he doesn't have time to test it out first. Bracing himself, he punches the tank as hard as he can. Thankfully the compound did work, and the impact shatters the glass. The water streams out and splashes against the pirates, causing them to slip and fall. But Varian grabs Misty's arm to keep her from flowing towards them.
