I watched her like a creep throughout the whole meeting, but I was so fucking proud.
The power and confidence oozed from Carlotta as she addressed half the underworld- she'd surprised everyone.
I wanted to speak up with her, to help defend her as the Russians and Evangelos did, but I knew I wasn't welcome. I knew she fucking hated me right now and I didn't blame her one bit.
I was sitting between Lorenzo and Angelo.
I knew Angelo wanted me close to keep me in check, so I wouldn't do anything 'reckless' to embarrass him.
I shared several private glances with Lorenzo throughout, knowing he felt the exact same way. I could see the proud glint in his eyes as he watched our baby sister.
We didn't even acknowledge the fact she stood beside the Greek mafia Don- we just wanted her back.
As soon as Evangelos dismissed the meeting, Car grabbed him and dragged him over to Milan.
I stood, wanting to speak to her, but backed off when I saw the happy smile on her face with Milan and Evangelos.
I feel a hand on my shoulder and look to my left to see Lorenzo looking at me empathetically.
"I need to talk to Antoine." Angelo announces from behind us, looking down at me in warning. "Lorenzo, keep an eye on Rome." He says, before walking to Antoine with Gio and Mass in tow.
Enzo squeezed my shoulder in silent reassurance. To Angelo, I was the only rebel in the family, the only one who spoke out against his opinions on Car. Lorenzo was on my side, Angelo just didn't know that. Yet.
I look back over to Carlotta, and see Evangelos kiss the tip of her nose before disappearing into the crowd.
I didn't even get mad at the gesture... It was sweet. I was so sure Evangelos had groomed her into being in a relationship with him, like Angelo had told me so many times but- to me it looked like he loved her.
Like when he looks at her, she's the only person in the world.
My heart strings tug, and I feel both happy and sad.
Happy Car has found her person, that she can move on from us.
And sad because she has everything I want but don't deserve. A family, a boyfriend who loves her, friends.
I look up to Lorenzo and he tears his eyes from her as well, we share the same emotions swimming in our eyes.
"Fuck it." Lorenzo mutters and I nod at him. We needed to talk to Car, and this might be our only- our last chance to do so.
I start forwards to head to Car but wince slightly, my bruised ribs aching under my shirt. Angelo had pushed me down the stairs not two days ago after I told him he was wrong about Evangelos.
