Brooke walked slowly through the dimly lit corridor, her sneakers echoing in the silent building. Once a vibrant factory, it now sat empty, a reminder of days gone by. For Brooke, this had become her sanctum, a place she could go and be alone.

She stopped at the door at the end of the hallway, taking a deep breath before pushing it open. Inside, all was still and quiet, the darkness interrupted only by a sliver of moonlight shining in from a window up high.

Brooke crossed the room to the far wall, her heart heavy with loneliness. For years, she'd sought companionship, but had always been left disappointed. Now she found solace in this place, but it never made the pain of being alone go away.

She let out a long breath before turning and exiting the room. She'd taken another step towards healing, but it was a long road yet to go. At least in her own company, Brooke could face her own thoughts and emotions without fear of rejection. She could cry if she felt like it, or simply sit in stillness if she wanted.

Brooke exited the building, feeling a tiny spark of hope - hoping one day she could find strength in the presence of another. Until then, she could take refuge in this place alone.
