                                 Chapter Three

                                 (Accusations)

Alana stood out on the balcony looking over a lake at the back of the castle. The sky was painted with shades of gold, red, and orange as the sun began to set. It would be dark soon.  The elderly lady had missed the sunsets of Shalace. The mortal realm had sunsets but they were not as vibrant in color.

“You always did enjoy the sunset.”

Alana looked back to see her parents and Beven standing there. It was the soft voice of her mother that had spoken.

“The sunsets here are still the best,” Alana confessed. “What brings you out?”

“Can’t family simply spend time together?” King Abron asked.

“You disowned me, remember?” Alana said matter of fact.

“You chose a stupid mortal!” Beven shouted.

“I chose love!” Alana snapped. “Something you probably don’t know anything about,” she added. “I never chose to fall for a mortal, it just happened.”

“Enough Beven!” Queen Shaylene said firmly. She did not want her two children to start arguing over the mortal thing anymore. “It’s in the past.” She looked at Alana and said, “We have not yet been formally introduced to Callista. Bring her to dinner.”

“She won’t eat,” Alana replied. She watched as both her father and elder brother narrowed their eyes at her. “I will try and get her to at least sit with you. Callista doesn’t eat when things are on her mind. That’s just the way she is.”

“I don’t care if she eats or not, I want her at the table!” The Fae king barked. “We should have already met with her!”

“Is there really a point?” Alana asked. All three fae looked at her, shocked.

“She hasn’t even decided if she’ll accept the throne.” Alana stated.

“She has no choice!” Beven said firmly; his hands clentched at his sides

“Yes she does!” Alana said just as harsh. “She can turn the throne down.”

“If she turns the throne down..”

“I know what could happen!” She assured him. “It is her choice though. She must decide what is right for her.”

“What did you tell her?” The queen asked, becoming concerned.

“She knows she is in Shalace and is heir to the pixie throne,” Alana assured her mother. “I told her it was her choice and she had to decide.”

“You didn’t tell her what could happen if she refuses,” King Abron said realizing. Alana didn’t reply and looked down at the ground instead. “You have to persuade her to take the throne!”

“The only thing I have to do now is die!” Alana said speaking harshly towards her father. She was angry he’d disowned her and now expected favors.

“Considering we are in the predicament we are in because you chose a mortal, I would think you would want to rectify the situation,” Beven growled. “It’s your fault!”
