Chapter 15

(Dark Elf Castle)

Callista blinked a few times before she fully opened her eyes. With a yawn she stretched. “Was it a dream?” She asked. With another stretch she sat up in bed. “Nope not a dream,” She sighed looking around her new surroundings. Callista might have been awake in her room the previous night but she was so wound up by the sudden changes she had paid little attention to her new surroundings.

The room was decorated in shades of Green and cream. Slowly she slipped out of bed. She looked down to see she was wearing a dark green night gown. She wondered where it had come from but shrugged figuring it didn’t matter. Walking over to the nearest wall she found images were painted everywhere. The images of creatures were of some she’d seen and some she hadn’t. It didn’t take her long to realize the room had been decorated in both light and dark.

“I’m hungry,” The teenage girl commented. “Time to get dressed.” She found her bathroom and quickly started getting ready to make an appearance at breakfast.

Callista threw on a pair of dark blue shorts and a matching dark blue and light blue jersey. Once again looking like an athlete she was ready to face the dark elves.

The blonde haired girl walked to her door and opened it. “Cav…you’re not Cavin,” She said finding herself looking at two dark elves.

“Your father sent them to rest last night,” Ramsey said walking up. Callista looked at the dark elf and immediately recognized him from the ball.

“Oh. Well good. I don’t think they’ve slept in three or four days,” The teenage girl commented. Ramsey didn’t comment but something told her he was curious to why her guards hadn’t slept. “I don’t think they sleep when I don’t. Plus with the whole…betrothal thing they didn’t get a chance to sleep.”

Ramsey nodded at this. He looked at the two dark elves that had been guarding the teenage girl and said, “You are dismissed.” The guards didn’t argue and with a bow at Callista they walked away.

“I’ll show you to the dining room. Your father is waiting,” Ramsey announced. The girl nodded and followed her father’s guard through the halls.

They entered the dining room and the teenager almost laughed seeing she was last to arrive to breakfast here as well. Silently she wondered if this would be normal event here. She had always been first up when it had been just her and her grandmother.

“Morning,” Callista said cheerfully and headed for the table. Without a second thought she sat down in one of the chairs. Seeing her brothers all raise an eyebrow at her she said, “What?” No one said anything. Suddenly it dawned on her. “Crap! I was supposed to bow wasn’t I?”

“It’s alright,” Soren said seeing his daughter was about to stand up to correct her mistake.

“Sorry,” The girl apologized. The king simply nodded she was forgiven. As breakfast was placed before them she figured now was as good a time as any to get all other disappointments out of the way. “Since I’ve already messed up this morning I might as well tell you I’m not girly.”

“Not girly?” Moryn inquired.

“I’ve worn two dresses in the last 13 years,” The teenage girl began. “Last night, and the night of the ball. I’m not the definition of a proper lady,” She added curling her fingers as she emphasized proper. “To be honest until about five days before the ball I didn’t even know how to walk in heels. Trust me it took a lot of practice for me not to fall down trying to walk across a room let alone not fall down the stairs.”
