Chapter 28

(Telling the king past deeds)

Aidan escorted her into the castle and to her suite. Will opened the door and they entered the suite. Cavin and Chale joining them.

“Darla have some lunch brought for us and our guards,” Aidan instructed.

“Of course majesty,” With a curtsy she started to leave.

“Thank you Darla,” The princess called after her. Darla smiled warmly at her and left the room.

“Sit down my lady,” Aidan said pulling out a cushioned chair of a small four person table.

“Thank you,” Callista said and sat down. “Really I’m okay,” She assured the three men. “You don’t need to fret over me I’m fine.”

“It hasn’t hit you yet princess,” Cavin said gently. Shelooked at him with open interest. “You’re strong my lady but even a royal male feels at least a few moments of shock the first time someone tries to kill them.”

“I still remember the first time someone tried to kill me,” Aidan said. Callista looked at him. “I was eight years old.”

“Someone tried to kill you when you were a child?! Why? Who?” She said shocked.

“My father’s mistress,” He replied. “My father made the mistake of telling her he would never marry her even after my mother died to secure my place on the throne.”

“Bitch,” Callista muttered. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to say that out loud.”

“I agree with you,” Aidan said.

“How did she try to kill you?” Callista asked.

“She came up behind me just after I’d finished my schooling for the day and attempted to take a sword to me.”

“Obviously you lived,” The teenager said.

“My father’s captain came in just in time and killed her,” He replied. “I admit I was shaken. I had nightmares for weeks.”

“You were a kid,” Callista said.

“Yes. I was still a child the next few attempts as well,” The Goblin King replied.

“More mistresses?” Callista asked.

“One other but none after that.More assassins from other kingdoms,” He replied.

“But how? The labyrinth is there.”

“Yes well not just anyone can enter the labyrinth. The castle is a little different,” Aidan explained. “No one and nothing can enter the labyrinth without permission.”

“So the labyrinth is the safest and deadliest place in your kingdom,” Callista summarized.

“Yes it is,” He agreed. Hearing a knock he looked at the door. “Enter.”

The door opened and a few servants entered bringing in lunch.

“Thank you,” Callista said. “Please ask our guards to join us.” The servants nodded. With a curtsy the women left and the rest of their guards entered the room.

“We need a bigger table,” Callista commented. Aidan smiled. He tapped his finger on the table and instantly in transformed to accommodate the two royals and the eight guards. “Neat trick.”

The guards sat down and they all began to eat. Suddenly Callista let out a laugh. Everyone looked at her as she laughed a little more.

“What’s so funny?” Greer asked.
