Chapter 7: Red Paint
When we headed downstairs around 9pm, Mum and Dad were in the kitchen talking quietly, sipping thoughtfully from their mugs of most probably coffee,
"Is everything okay?" I asked,
"Yes" Mum answered, too quickly for my liking,
"Did you find any damage?" Tayte asked,
"No, there isn't any" Dad replied,
"What's going on?" I asked, "What aren't you telling us?"
"Nothing, what are you getting at Keane?" Mum said,
"Don't try and protect us, we don't need protecting" I told her,
"You keep telling yourself that son, but we will always protect you" Dad said,
"Something was left wasn't it" Tayte said, catching on, "Like a note or something"
"Mum, Dad...protect us fine, but don't lie and keep us in the dark," Dad pulled out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and handed it over, I unfolded it and we read;
SORRY ABOUT THE NOISE, WE WERE JUST MAKING SURE WE HAD YOUR ATTENTION...
It wasn't signed,
"Do you know who this is from?" I asked,
"That's a long list" Dad said,
"Can't you look into it?" Tayte asked,
"Ask some of your buddies from MI5 and MI6?"
"We're not in that life anymore" Mum said,
"Once a spy always a spy, you still have your fingers in many pies" I said,
"And this is why I didn't want to tell you, I don't need you worrying about this"
"Well what do you expect me to do?"
"I expect you to let us handle this" She said,
"Then handle it" I snapped, storming out,
"Tayte..." Joey began,
"You don't have to tell me, I know" He answered and followed me.
"Don't even go there Tayte, don't..." I said,
"I wasn't going to say anything, except, I think we should go and see Piper before she puts a price on our head," I knew he was smiling before he turned around,
"That sounds like a good idea to me"
...
"Boys, I am so glad you FINALLY made time to come and see me properly" Piper said, we smiled,
"Is Rory about?"
"No, he had to pop out and we're covered in the diner until 3pm, lets head into the back. I'll make you both a drink, what would you like?"
"An iced Mocha please" I said,
"I'll have the same" Tayte added,
"Coming right up" She said, "So how was travelling?"
