“You’re not skipping Lana, you skipped last week. Go.” Frank grimaced at me.

“I don't want to. I fucking hate that place, Lucas has managed to kidnap half my friends and he treats me like his little bitch all day. I don’t even know why he goes to school if he’s got this multi-millionaire family.” I glared at the floor in annoyance. I wanted to do something, I really did. But it wasn’t easy; there wasn’t anything I could do without hurting everyone around me.

“It’s a part of blending in. Just hold out for one more semester, that’s all you got left till graduation right? It’ll be worth it in the long run.” He sighed.

“Why are you acting like a parent? Can’t you just be the cool boyfriend and play hookie with me today?” I groaned.

“Cause I care. If I had it my way I’d keep you here all day to myself.” He chuckled.

“Ughh, cant you call Mr. Way again?” I grimaced.

Mr. Way can usually ‘hack’ into the computers to make it so I was there when I wasn’t. But doing too many times would raise suspicion with the other teachers. I’ve already gotten a ‘hey, I don’t remember you being here but the attendance records say you were. Hm. Strange.’

“He wants us to stop doing that Lana…” Frank frowned.

“I know but, UGHHHHH.” I dragged my hand down my face.

“C’mon. Let’s go. You’re going to be late as it is. If it gets really bad just go for detentions again.”

Lately what I’ve been doing is fake lunch detentions with Mr. Way to avoid the cafeteria, where Lucas would torment me the most. He’d make me sit with him and his little asshole friends and act like I was his playmate or something.

The one time I tried to tell him off he threatened his Daddy would pay me a visit again. So the great part about having Mr. Way around is that Lucas has no leverage against him. Lucas has no idea Mr. Way knows about the trafficking or anything that went down the day I got shot.

Therefore, Mr. Way can use his teacher authority to pull me away every time Lucas wants to mess with me.

Sadly, Mr. Way isn’t around the whole school day and I still have two classes alone with Lucas. It used to be three but this semester I switched that class, culinary, out for art with Mr. Way.

Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Way and I still fight like cats and dogs but he’s the only thing protecting me right now next to Frank. And I appreciate him for that.

When Lucas found out about me switching classes he tried to change his schedule as well to be in art but Mr. Way rejected the change request and made it seem like his class was already full.

Thank the lord.

As for the other classes there was just no options to change to without fucking up my whole schedule royally. And apparently the alternative schedule still ended up with two classes with Lucas, so I was fucked either way.

What would be one more day though? The school always cut me so much slack.

I knew in the back of my head, Frank would not let me stay either way.

“Fine.” I grumbled, grabbing my bag and heading out the door.

“Hey kid, want some brownies.” Mr. Way grinned at me.

I glanced over to the plate stacked with chocolatey-goodness Mr. Way was pulling out of his mini fridge.

We were eating lunch in his classroom, cold soggy alfredo pasta. Those brownies seemed way more appetizing than what was on our plate right now.
