Summary: Chanyeol teaches Baekhyun how to use a ski lift.

Chanyeol lied. This weather isn't like winter in Seoul. There's so much fucking snow, it can probably bury someone and leave them undiscovered for days.

But at the same time, the ski resort is also really fucking beautiful. Standing at the bottom of the lift, waiting for their turn, Chanyeol looks back behind him with the intention of pulling the runt closer to him, but...

Jon ruins it—at least.

"Hey, your right boot is all messed up." Jon gets down on a knee and snaps one of the straps back in place. "You could've gotten hurt."

"Aw, thanks!" Baekhyun smiles at him. "Wouldn't want to take a tumble! That would've been embarrassing."

"Are you nervous?"

"Kind of, but it's okay! Chanyeol's—"

Chanyeol rolls his eyes, putting a gentle hand on Baekhyun's shoulder. "Come on. We're next up."

"Oh, right." Baekhyun turns back to Jon. "Thanks for looking out! See you at the top?"

"Uh, sure." Jon glances behind Baekhyun, catching Chanyeol glaring at him. "See you there."

As soon as the next chairlift starts nearing them, Chanyeol gets them in position. "Just relax. Keep your ski poles in one hand and make sure you hold on to the chair until you're completely on it."

"What about you?"

"Don't worry about me," Chanyeol replies.

At this point, he's more worried about Baekhyun not making it on the lift. Luckily for him, the brunet actually pulls through and makes it on. Still, Chanyeol doesn't breathe a sigh of relief until he pulls the safety bar down.

On the slow incline up the mountain, Baekhyun holds his hand— or tries to. They're both wearing thick gloves. At most, they can stack their hands on top of each other's.

"Hey," Chanyeol says,  turning his attention to Baekhyun. "What's with that Jon guy? I don't like him."

"Jon?" Baekhyun looks away for a second. "He hasn't bothered me in a while and I don't get weird vibes from him... But I know you don't like him. He's not that bad, though! Well, once you get to know him."

"I don't want to get to know him."

Baekhyun giggles. "Are you jealous?"

"Yeah." Chanyeol keeps his eyes steady on the runt. "I am."

"You don't have to be." Baekhyun scoots over, rocking the whole lift. "You're the one I love, dummy!"

"Hm..." Breaking eye contact, Chanyeol states over at the end of the ride. They're half-way there. "I guess. So, what does he do? What's he studying?"

"Computer Science! Like me! It's actually really helpful. Sometimes, when I can't figure something out, he'll help me. Then, when we have classes together, he'll help me study."

Chanyeol doesn't say anything. He's just reminded of all the shit he can't do when Baekhyun's in school, struggling over things he doesn't know about.

"Yeol?" Baekhyun nudges him. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah."

Not really.

"We're almost at the end. What should I do?"

Looking up, Chanyeol sees the faint markings on the ground. He looks over to his right and sees Baekhyun looking focused with gaging their distance and speed.

He looks cute...

Chanyeol almost smiles. But he doesn't.

Snapping himself out of it, Chanyeol points at the markings. "When we're right above those red lines, lift up your skis before you get off. You're going to glide down for a bit, but just stop if you feel uncomfortable. Use your poles."

Nodding, Baekhyun then asks, "What about you?"

As he lifts the safety bar up and over them, Chanyeol shakes his head. "Don't worry about me. Just look after yourself. I'll be fine."

[ 2013 ]

After Taemin had left, Chanyeol was back in his silence, staring at the garden.

Maybe he really should just leave. Showing his face now is just going to be awkward. Jongin and Sehun seem to be busy, so it's not like he can use them as an excuse for anything.

Chanyeol clenches his jaw.

He's tired of staring at this fucking garden.

Muttering curses to himself, he finally decides he's done. Fixing his jacket, he turns on his heel and starts walking back to the door leading into the kitchen.

Just as he reaches for the handle, the glass door slides open and surprises him with a familiar face.

"Were you hiding here all this time!?"
