Qulsum's POV.

I went down with my laptop to continue writing. Mama comes running towards me.

"Here. The Editor wants to talk to you!"

I quickly grab the phone.
"Hello?"

"Qulsum right?"

"Y-y-yes sir!"

"Good. I'm willing to be your editor."

"GREAT! Um would you like to have dinner with us?"

"No. Thanks."

Mama waits and i nod my head side to side

"Tell him he has to."

"My mother-in-law won't take no for an answer."

"Alright. Fine I'll come. "

Dinner was ready and the doorbell rang.

The editor was here.

I opened the door and he took a step forward. He muttered something under his breath.

"Please come in. Um Dinner should be ready. Follow me." I say ad I lead him towards the living room.

"This is my mother-in- law" I say turning to him. He froze. I turned to my mother in law and she was staring.

What is going on?

"Guys?" I whisper.

"Why have you come?" She finally breaks the silence.

"Mama he's the edi-"

"Sh please Qulsum." She says looking down and I nod.

"She wanted an editor."

"No. She'll get another one" Ma says turning the other way around not facing him.

What is going on?

"This is not about you and me this is about a book." He says.

"I don't want you here." She says sternly.

"i'm not here for you. I didn't know this-"

"You know very well this is MY house. Don't you dare lie to me Adam."

"Fine. If that's what you want."

"Just leave." She says shutting her eyes.

I lead him back to the door not knowing what to say.

"Sorry." I whisper and he smiles and nods.

"I'll be your editor." He says and waves and leaves.

I shut the door and go towards the living room.

Ma turned to me and collapsed onto the couch with tears in her eyes.

What have I done?

I quickly run over to her and put my arm around her shoulder.

"I'm so sorry." I say.

She held onto my arm and wiped her tears.

"You-"

"I'll get you some water." I say.

I came back and she smiled.

"Jazakallah." She says.
