I bite my lip
all through dinner
everything I repressed
everything I pushed away
is threatening to b u b b l e
TO THE SURFACE.
"Do you want to play upstairs?"
I ask Zaina,
as soon as we're done
clearing up the dinner table.
"Yeah!
Lemme get my Bratz dolls,
I'll be up in a second."
I go to check on Suki,
before realizing that she's gone
to Keiko's house for a sleepover.
I hear Zaina rushing up
and I brace myself.
She rushes into my bedroom,
drops to the carpet and starts arranging
her dolls,
"I was thinking Chloe and Jade
could be a part of this secret-"
"Zaina?"
"....what? What's wrong?"
