Mei presses a small parcel into my hand
on her way to the door. It's late and our guests have started to
bid us goodbye and good luck.
"It's small,
but I hope you like it."
She whispers softly
and pulls me into another hug.
"Arigatō Haru-chan.
Tanoshī, nē?"
I hug her back
and my heart throbs painfully
but I can't express how much
she means to me.
'What is it?'
I pull back to ask.
Mei grins,
all teeth and gums
and immense, radiatingh a p p i n e s s.
'You'll see!'

Arigatō Haru-chan. Tanoshī, nē? - Thanks Haru-chan. Have fun, okay?
If I messed it up, let me know. If I got it right, still let me know so I can stop worrying.
Also, Harmony is going to Japan in Book 3 and will be talking mainly in Japanese so I will be sticking to English and pointing out whenever the characters switch to another language.
Ah and I've been doing my sign language research. I've been learning the difference between British Sign Language and Japanese Sign Language (+ picking up a lot of vocab along the way. i'm a bit of a language enthusiast, if my plethora of bi and multilingual characters hasn't tipped you off yet).
JSL is a whole other language to BSL (obviously) and I know Harmony is slightly notorious making picking up a language look easy...
But I want to portray that difficulty. I want to show you her efforts more now. Back when I was writing StM (already over a year!! oh wow) I don't think I was thinking very logically. I just wanted to get the story out there.
So with Book 3, I'm hoping to write more realistically ^^ look forward to even more suffering! At least the academic type. There might be some emotional roller coasters too because, I mean, would it even be a Maoiel novel if it wasn't pumped with angst and feels? No, it wouldn't.
Also, here's what I imagine Miho would've looked like when he and Harmony met for the first time -
I can't wait for you to get to know him, to fall in love with him and just!! I don't know, I'm way too attached to this weirdo with a weird name.
Till the next update,
- mao
