Friday morning, Maddie was finishing getting ready for school. She was dressed in a purple dress, brown ankle boots, and a black leather jacket. She then braided her hair.

When she finished getting dressed, Maddie picked up her backpack and headed downstairs to the kitchen. "Good morning, pumpkin." Stefan said.

"Morning Dad." Maddie said. "What's for breakfast?"

"I made us each an omelette." Stefan answered.

"Ok." Maddie said as she sat at the table.

Stefan looked Maddie up and down. "I think your uncle is rubbing off on you." He said. "You're wearing a leather jacket now."

"I decided to wear this on my own." Maddie said. "Uncle Damon had nothing to do with it."

"If you say so." Stefan said, not convinced. He set everything on the table and they started eating.

"Speaking of Uncle Damon." Maddie started. "What's happening with him?"

"It's nothing you have to worry about." Stefan said. "I'm handling it."

"Dad!" Maddie said. "Can you please not keep things from me? Especially when it has to do with our family." Stefan sighed and nodded. "What are you doing to him?" Maddie asked.

"I'm just going to starve him of blood to weaken him and let him desiccate." Stefan explained. "I'll put him in the family crypt and I'll let him out in fifty years."

"I don't like this." Maddie said.

"I know." Stefan said. "But it needs to be done." Maddie just continued to eat. "Don't go in the basement." Stefan said.

"He's not going to hurt me." Maddie said.

"You don't know know that." Stefan said.

"Come on." Maddie said.

"Right now, all he wants is to be out of that cell and he would do anything for that. He may be on vervain, but he is still stronger than you. And he'll say just the right thing to you to get you to let him out of that cell." Stefan said. "Just please stay out of the basement." Maddie nodded. "I know you care about him." Stefan said. "I'm doing this because I care about him."

"Ok." Maddie said.

"Help me clean up breakfast and get to school." Stefan said. Maddie nodded as she stood up and helped her father. When they finished, Maddie slung her bag over her shoulder and walked out of the house.

A few minutes later, they arrived at the high school. They walked into the school. They saw Elena with Bonnie and Caroline. "Hey Elena." Maddie greeted. The three girls turned to face Stefan and Maddie.

"You." Caroline said to Maddie. "Sexy Suds Car Wash tomorrow. Be there."

"Am I supposed to know what that means?" Maddie asked.

"We're doing a fundraiser by having a car wash." Caroline explained. "All the proceeds are going to the athletic department." Maddie nodded. Caroline walked off with Bonnie.

"I'm going to head to class." Maddie said. "I'll see you guys later." She walked into her first class and saw Jeremy. "Hey." Maddie greeted.

"Hey." Jeremy said, looking up from what he was doing. "Where have you've been?"

"Why? Did you miss me?" Maddie teased.

"Maybe." Jeremy said. "School's a lot more tolerable when you're here."

"Sorry." Maddie said. "I had a family thing to deal with."
"Ahh ok." Jeremy said.

"What are you working on?" Maddie asked, referring to what looked like a sketch pad in front of him.

"It's nothing." Jeremy said as he closed the book.

"It doesn't look like nothing." Maddie said. "May I?"

Jeremy hesitated before nodding. "Sure. Go ahead." He said.

Maddie flipped through the book and looked at the drawings. "You never told me that you could draw." She said.

"I used to, but I stopped after my parents died." Jeremy said. "I just recently started up again."

"These are amazing." Maddie said.

"Thanks." Jeremy said.

"Just saying. Maddie started. "But this would probably make better use of your time than drinking and taking drugs."

"Yeah. You're right." Jeremy said. The teacher walked into the room and class started.

After school, Maddie got home before her father did. She set her stuff on the floor and headed to the basement door. She saw it was open, so she guessed Zach was down there. She walked down the stairs and went to where Damon was.

"You shouldn't be down here, Maddie." Damon said. "Stefan will rip my head off if he knew you were down here."

"I don't care." Maddie said.

"I don't guess I could talk you into bringing me a rabbit or something?" Damon asked. "I'd settle for yours and Stefan's diet at this point."

"You know she can't do that." Zach said. "And neither can I."

"You succeeded, Zach. I'm shutting down." Damon said. "You're like your grandfather. He didn't like it when I came to visit, either."

"But you don't visit, Damon." Zach pointed out. "You appear, unannounced, reminding me that this isn't my house; that you're just permitting me to live here. Hell, that you're permitting me to live. I came to say good-bye, Damon."

Just then, Damon grabbed Zach by the throat. "Unlock the door, Zach." He said. Maddie sped over and tried to Zach out of Damon's grasp. At the same time, she saw her father doing the same thing. He wrestled Zach away from Damon.

"Keep it up, Damon." Stefan warned. "The more energy you expend, the faster you'll go." He looked at Maddie. "Get upstairs." He said. Maddie obeyed. "What the hell were you thinking?" Stefan demanded as he followed her. Maddie ignored him and sped up to her room. "Madeline Salvatore, get back down here!" Stefan commanded. Maddie sighed and sped back downstairs.

"I just wanted to see him." She said.

"And I told you to stay out of the basement." Stefan said. "Do it again and you're grounded. Understand?"

"Yes father." Maddie said.

"Now, go to your room." Stefan said. Maddie nodded before heading back upstairs.
