Monday morning, Maddie woke up and got out bed. She grabbed a towel and went into her bathroom to take a shower. She turned the water on and undressed while the water got warm. When the water was warm enough, Maddie stepped into the shower.

Once done, Maddie stepped out of the shower and dried off. She blow-dried her hair and straightened it.

Afterwards, Maddie walked into her room and searched through her closet for an outfit. She chose a white t-shirt with ripped jeans and tan ankle boots. She finished the outfit by putting on a black sweater with pink flowers.

When Maddie finished getting ready for school, she headed downstairs.

"When Dad wakes up, let him know I headed to school." She said as she slung her bag over her shoulder and grabbed a muffin.

"You aren't going to wake him up?" Damon asked.

"He just lost his best friend because of you." Maddie said. "If he wants to sleep in and be a little late to school, then that's his decision." She walked out of the house and sped through the woods to the high school. When she got to school, she walked inside and headed to her locker.

"Hey Mads." Jeremy greeted her.

Maddie couldn't help but a few tears fall. "Hi Jeremy." She said.

"Hey, are you ok?" Jeremy asked.

"Yeah." Maddie said.

"I can see you crying." Jeremy said. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing Jeremy." Maddie said as she wiped the tears away and started down the hall. "Come on. Let's get to History."

Jeremy followed after her. "Please, tell me." He said.

Maddie sighed. She stopped and turned around to look at him. "I had a friend who used to call me Mads." Maddie said. "She passed away not too long ago."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry." Jeremy said. "I'm sorry about your friend."

"Thank you." Maddie said. They continued walking.

"I won't call you that anymore." Jeremy said.

"It's fine." Maddie said. "I actually kind of like it."

"Ok." Jeremy said. They walked into the History class and sat at their desks.

"I wonder when we're going to get a new history teacher." Maddie said.

"I heard the new teacher is starting today." Jeremy said.

As if on cue, a redheaded man walked into the classroom. "Good Morning everyone." The guy said as he wrote his name on the board. "Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough. You'll probably want to pronounce "Alaric" but it's "Alaric," okay? So, you can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher." He started the lesson.

After the class ended, Maddie started pack her stuff up. "Jeremy, could you come see me before lunch?" Alaric asked.

"Yeah." Jeremy said. He looked at Maddie. "I'll catch up with you later."

"Ok." Maddie said as she walked out of the classroom. As Maddie made her way down the hallway, Elena came up to her.

"Hey Maddie." She said.

"Hey Elena." Maddie said.

"How's Stefan?" Elena asked.

"He's doing ok." Maddie replied.

"He hasn't killed Damon yet, has he?" Elena asked.

"No." Maddie answered.

"That's good. I just wanted to make sure he was ok." Elena said. "How are you. I know Lexi was your friend too."

"I'm doing ok." Maddie said.

"Ok." Elena said. "Well, I'll see you later."

"See ya, Elena." Maddie said as she walked to her next class. The rest of the morning, Maddie went to her classes.

As she headed to lunch, she heard her father. She looked over and saw him talking to Elena. She walked over to them. "Hey." Maddie said to them.

"Hey." Stefan said, looking towards her. "I just wanted to make sure you were ok. You were gone when I woke up."

"Sorry." Maddie said. "I told uncle Damon to tell you that I went to school."

"He did." Stefan said.

"Well, I'm going to head to lunch." Maddie said.

"I'll see you later." Stefan said.

"Ok." Maddie said before walking off. She headed to cafeteria. After she got her lunch, she looked around for Jeremy. She walked over to him and joined him.

"Hey." Jeremy greeted.

"Hey." Maddie said. "So, what did Mr. Saltzman want?"

"He gave some extra credit to bring my grade up." Jeremy said.

"That's great, Jeremy." Maddie said.

"Yeah." Jeremy said. "Do you want to hang out at the Grill after school."

"Yeah." Maddie answered. "I'd love to."

"We can play some pool or darts." Jeremy said.

"Sounds good." Maddie said. "I just need to let my brother know." Jeremy nodded and they continued to eat lunch.
