i was meeting peter today and we hadn't spoke since the dinner. obviously, he had no idea went on, but i think he picked up that i had been acting distant.

i put my gloves onto my hands, as i walked over towards him. "hey." he smiled, as he tried hug me.

"hey." i smiled up at him.

"it's freezing." he stated awkwardly.

"yep."

"do you wanna get some coffee?" he asked me, as my eyes widened. coffee? at luke's? where jess lives! no way.

"uh, how about we just sit here?" i suggested trying to make him change his mind.

"come on, it's cold." he smiled grabbing my hand. "i'll pay."

peter practically dragged me over to the diner. he couldn't see that i was hiding how i really felt, as we talked and laughed on the way there.

we walked inside and i ran to one of the tables and placed the menu up trying to cover my face as best as i could, whilst peter went up to order us some coffee.

i watched jess walk down the steps and stood behind the counter. i could feel him looking over at me, but i tried to avoid eye contact as best i could.

"two coffees." peter smiled, as he placed them both on the table. i smiled at him, before picking it up and taking a sip out of it. however, i subtly spat it all back into the cup; he could never get my order right.

i heard jess laugh to himself, behind the counter as he watched me. 'shut up.' i mouthed to him trying to hold back my laugh.

"so i could be getting that scholarship." peter smiled at me.

i turned my head to face him, "uh, what scholarship?" i questioned not recalling what he was talking about.

"you know, the thing i told you about," he stated. "the basketball one." he said trying to remind me.

i honestly had no recollection of him telling this, but i decided to go along with it. "oh, yeah." i smiled and nodded. "i'm not sure what i want to-"

"but, i just need to keep focusing on training, as much as i can and watch what i eat so i stay fit." he carried on speaking about himself, after interrupting me.

i had zoned out by this point, after hearing him talk endlessly about himself, not bothering to ask me one question about myself.

"peter, peter." i repeated trying to get him to stop talking.

"yeah?"

"i've gotta go and make sure my basket is finished for later." i told him standing up from my chair. "i'll see you later." i smiled, before quickly walking out.

it was the traditional stars hollow 'win yourself a lunch' picnic basket thing. i wasn't too sure what you'd call it, but i packed my basket with all my favourite foods. i went upstairs and made sure i was gonna be warm enough, since i didn't know how long i'd be out for.

"are you ready." i asked my mom, as she nodded and we left together.

-

"so who do you want to win your basket?" mom smiled at me excitedly, as we walked towards the gazebo where it was all happening.

"i don't mind." i answered with a small shrug.

"not peter?" she questioned with furrowed brows.

"i don't mind." i answered again, before i walked over to meet rory.
