I nearly cried when I was told my first lesson was Drama. I fucking hated drama but Hayes insisted it was the courses my mother had picked out for me and that it was too late to change. For some reason it was in the gym and I let out a breath of relief when I saw Rue sitting down on the floor

"Hey what's up?" I ask as I sit next to her and she lets out a big grin

"Nothing much. Just enjoying the greatest years of my life" she says sarcastically and I smirk

"Is that what we're calling it? someone forgot to give me the memo" I state and she laughs slightly but suddenly the sound of heels have us all looking up and I notice a woman on the stage.

"So, let's start with a little improvisation. I'd like each of you to get up and tell us a five-minute story about your summer." she says and suddenly Rues ducking down into my lap trying to shield herself but the teacher almost immediately spots her and smiles "Looks like we have our first volunteer: Rue." she states and I feel Rue tense.

"Please don't do this to me." Rue whines but the teacher shakes her head and Rue stands up reluctantly.

"Come on, everyone. Let's give her a little encouragement. A memory? Anything that had an impact on you this summer." the teacher explains and I watch the saddened expression on Rues face. Of course she wasn't happy from what Nyla had told me Rue had spent most of it in rehab after nearly dying

"I don't... I don't... I can't think of..." Rue stutters

"Just... relax your body. Release the tension. And just breathe." the teacher states but if it's possible Rue seems to get even tenser and I notice the slight tremble in her lip

"So this... this summer?" Rue asks again and I could almost hear all the classmates groaning

"Yes." the teacher states and Rue begins to shake slightly as she looks down at the floor.

"I'm having trouble, uh, like, remembering something, you know." Rue whispers weakly

"Just tell us a specific memory." The teacher says sounding slightly annoyed now.

"Uh, okay. Uh... I was, um, with my mom, and my, uh, my little sister, and we were, uh, listening to this... this song." Rue whispers but she takes almost a minute as she looks down at the ground before tears start to flow "I'm sorry, but I... I can't think of anything, so..." she begs and my heart had stopped. Can't this fucking bitch of a teacher just let it go. It's not like anyone gives a fuck about anyone else's lives anyways.

"Just..." the teacher begins but Rue begins shaking almost violently

"I'm, uh... I'm done. I can't. Do I have to do this?" Rue sobs and thats when the whispering starts

"She's a mess, dude." one says

"Honestly, I bet it's brain damage." Another says and on that I spin around glaring at the girl

"Say it again. Say it again" I spit and the girl looks at me with wide eyes as she shakes her head and I growl "You're being fucking rude." I spit and she looks down at the ground but when I look up Rues already long gone and I can see another girl follow her before I quickly do the same. When I reached the door they seemed to be in some sort of argument.

"I don't want-I don't want you to fucking check on me, whether I'm fine or I'm not fine. What difference are you going to make? Are-are you going to give me a life advice? You gonna fucking help me?" Rue cries and the other voice seems to be a bit shaky

"Well, you're one of my best friends." the voice says although it seems unsure

"Give me a fucking break. 'Cause we went to fucking pre-school together? That does not make us best fucking friends." Rues voice booms
