Making a Belly Mold

It was the day after your baby shower and you and Niall (but mostly Niall) had just finished putting all of the gifts away in the nursery. You now had everything you needed for the twins' arrival. All there was left to do was wait a few more weeks and they would be here!

You sat in one of the rockers in the nursery as you rubbed your hands over your huge bump. You knew you were going to miss your belly once the babies were here. You wouldn't miss the constant urge to pee or the back pain that comes with it, but you would miss moments like this where you just sat and looked at your belly with two little lives growing in it. You wish there was a way for you to keep your belly forever.

"What are you thinking about?" Niall asked as he walked out of the closet.

"I was just thinking about how I'm going to miss my belly once they are born. I wish there was a way to remember how big my bump is once I have the twins." You said as you looked up at him.

"We could make one of those belly mold things." He said.

"Do you know how?" You asked.

"No, but I'm sure I can Google it and find out." He said as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.

Niall ran to the store to get the supplies you would need and an hour later you and Niall were in the kitchen getting ready to make a mold of your belly. Niall had spread out some newspapers on the floor so the mess would be a little bit easier to clean up. Then he got a chair and placed it in the center of the papers.

"Okay before we start do you need to pee? Because this site says you'll have to sit for about an hour." He said. "And I know how the babies are squishing your bladder a lot right now."

"I better go before we start then." You said as you waddled down the hall towards the bathroom.

You came back out a few minutes later and took a seat on the chair. Niall had everything you would need for the mold: the drop clothes, the petroleum jelly, gloves, the plaster material, and a bucket of warm water.

"Okay babe, it says that bare skin works the best. Since it's just me here do you care if we take your shirt off?" Niall asked.

"No, it's okay." You said.

"May I?" Niall asked as he reached for the hem of your shirt.

"Yes." You said. He smiled and gripped the hem of the your shirt and carefully lifted it over your head so that you were left in just the bra you were wearing.

"Okay ready to start?" Niall asked.

"Ready as I'll ever be." You said.

"Okay I'm just going to put the jelly on your stomach so we can get a non-stick surface that the casting material will set cleanly." He said.

You nodded as he put his hand into the jar of petrolium jelly and put it on your stomach. You jumped at the contact.

"Ni, it's cold!" You said.

"I'm sorry babe." He said as his hands smoothed the jelly over your belly.

Once the jelly was smoothly spread on your belly Niall pulled the pair of gloves on as he began to place the strips on your belly. He would take a strip, dip it in water, and then carefully place it on your belly. After about ten minutes Niall had one layer of casting material on your belly.

"Is that all we have to do?" You asked as you looked at him.

"Not quite. We need to do at least one more layer but the website recommended three layers." He said.

"Okay," you said as you nodded.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm just a little thirsty. Could you get me some water or something to drink babe?" You asked.

"Of course, princess." He said. He slipped his gloves off and went over to the cupboard to get you a glass. He filled it with ice and water and then handed it to you.

You could feel the cast starting to set and it was a weird feeling against your skin. It also started to feel a little bit heavier on your bump.

After another fifteen minutes Niall had the two additional layers on the cast. You were relieved that he was done, because you were starting to get uncomfortable as you sat on the edge of the chair.

"Can we take it off?" You asked.

"Not yet. It says we need to wait twenty to thirty minutes. The site says it will start to pull away from the skin once it is ready to come off." He said.

After about half an hour you felt the cast start to pull away from your skin. You felt Niall touch the the cast and his lips curved into a smile as he realized that it was fairly hard.

"Okay I think it's ready to slide off." He said.

"Okay, good. It was starting to get a little uncomfortable for me." You said.

Niall gripped the edges carefully as he began to slowly pull it away from your skin. Once he had it completely off your belly you let out a big sigh of relief. It was like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders-or your belly you should say.

Niall placed the cast on the counter and put crumbled up newspapers underneath the curve of it to help keep its shape as it finished drying.

"Okay babe. You go take a nice shower and get that jelly off. I'll clean all this up." Niall said.

It took about 48 hours for the cast to air dry and finish setting. Niall applied a finishing coat to the top of the of the cast and it was done.

You stood in the kitchen as you admired the cast. You felt a warm pair of arms slide around your waist and Niall's chin rest in the dip in your shoulder.

"It looks great babe!" You said as you turned to look at him.

"Thanks, now we can remember your bump forever." Niall said as he smiled at you.
