After walking into your room, you closed the door and walked to you bed. Being in love with your best friend is already like walking on a thin line, but that best friend being more than a century old vampire and in love with another girl is the worst thing that could happen to someone. Unfortunately, that is exactly what your case was.

Damon Salvatore ruled the heart of a lot of girls in Mystic Falls. His charming personality, 'I don't really care but I do in my own crazy way' attitude, his hypnotising blue eyes, his figure, there was nothing wrong about this guy, absolutely nothing. But it was not only his looks that solidified your feelings for him. He didn't let everyone see the real him but you looked through his act.

Damon was pinning after Elena, his brother's girlfriend, and being Damon's best friend, you had to hear all about the stupid decisions that Elena made, that she looked fabulous and other such things. It hurt your heart to see the guy you love being so much in love with someone else.

But there were times when you couldn't help but wonder if it was really love or just an effect of him being once in love with her doppelganger Katherine. But today, it was like the last straw. You couldn't take it anymore. The endless crying in the nights, becoming quieter day by day... this was not you and you didn't want to turn into this person for anyone. So you made a decision, to ignore Damon from now on. It wasn't gonna be easy seeing as he is your best friend, but you were ready to take that risk for your own heart's sake.

From that day on, you started ignoring Damon. It happened more than once that he tried to talk to you but you always gave an excuse and walked away from him.

After a week of trying to get you to talk to him, Damon finally realised that something was wrong and he was determined to fix that. He didn't want to lose a friend like you.

It has been a few weeks since you started ignoring him and you were already regretting it. Damon tried talking to you for the first week but then stopped. And then his whole attitude towards you changed. You knew how much being abandoned effected Damon and you instantly started regretting your decision even more. He was over Katherine but getting over your love for someone is never easy, and as far as you knew, she was Damon's first love.

Tonight was the Lockwood masquerade ball. You danced with one man only though you weren't sure who he was. For all you knew, it might have been Damon with his pale blue eyes, the way his voice sounded and sharp jawline. The voice kinda made you sure that that was Damon. But before you could take off his mask, the guy slipped away.

The rest of the night was very boring for you. Finally, you walked out of the huge house with Elena and were walking towards your car when you saw a masked figure approaching you. Turning around you saw another masked man walking your way, you felt Elena gripping your arm tightly with fear but before you could run or even hit them, you felt a sharp pain at the back of your head and slowly you lost your senses, the only other sounds being Elena calling your name with faded away.

The sound was faded, as if it was coming from far away. Your head was throbbing as if someone was hitting you with a hammer. You groaned and turned from your place against the wall and opened your eyes slightly. You saw Elena on the couch and another girl standing near her. No one looked at your weak form on the floor as they talked to each other.
