July 21st, 2023

At exactly 11:59, the bell to our apartment rings. There's only one person crazy enough to come over this late at night.

Cas and Sage look up from their spot on the sofa in confusion.

"It's the middle of the night. Who's that?" Sage asks. I bite back a smile as I get up from my seat in the arm chair and walk past the television that is playing an old horror movie from the 80s. I'm not exactly sure what it is or what is even going on. I've been mostly on my phone the whole time.

"Rory's girlfriend, probably," Cas mumbles, grabbing the tv remote. "Want me to pause it?"

"I don't have a girlfriend," I respond, stepping into the hallway. "You can keep watching. I wasn't paying attention."

"Okay," they chuckle, putting the remote back down and wrapping their arms around Sage.

Sure enough, when I look through the peep hole, I can see Taylor standing there with a pink cardboard box in one hand. She has a lighter in the other trying to fire up a candle.

I unlock the door and as soon as I pull it open, Taylor starts singing.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday tooo—"

"Oh my god, you dork," I exclaim, pressing my palm against her mouth as I step outside with her, closing the door behind me with my free hand. I'm pretty sure my face has turned tomato-red.

"To Rooooory," Taylor continues anyway, her words muffled by my hand still covering her mouth. "Happy birthday to you!"

When she's done singing, I cover my face with both my hands and Taylor laughs, putting the box on the floor for a moment so she can pull me in for a hug.

"Happy birthday, Rory!" Taylor murmurs, pressing a kiss on the top of my head. "We should probably eat the cheesecake or put it in the fridge."

I drop my hands so that I can see her, my eyes going soft. "You got me cheesecake?"

"I made you lemon cheesecake, yes," she tells me, her smile widening. "Your favourite, right?"

"I— yeah... it is," I whisper as Taylor holds my face in her hands and kisses me softly.
