/28/ ONE WHO STAYS

Nothing in all
creation will ever be
able to separate us
from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus

KHEL'S POV

Currently, I was sitting in front of the dining table and she just prepared a soup for me. Then she pulled a chair and sat beside mine.

"Kain ka na. Masarap 'yan hangga't mainit pa," dugtong pa n'ya.

I just frowned while staring at the soup and back to the woman next to me. I gave her a questioning look. "Why are you here?"

Alagaan daw muna kita."

Alagaan?

"I'm not a child," malamig na tugon ko.

Meera raised her eyebrows to me. "Bakit? You need a caretaker."

Caretaker? I'm not disabled!

Huminga ako ng malalim. As much as I hate to, I must control my temper.

"I don't need your help. I don't need anyone's help," mariing wika ko at saka tumayo. Then I pointed my finger to the door. "Leave."

Meera's face turned dissapointed. Her sunny smile faded. She, with all bravery, stood up.

"Why are you always like that, Khel?" she spoke with eyes on mine. "You act like you're strong but you're not. You're too proud of yourself! Why can't you humble yourself just for once?"

Napasinghap ako at nakipagsukatan ng titig sa kaniya. "Humility isn't in my vocabulary. Are you satisfied? Now... leave!"

"No!"

Ang kulit!

"D*mn," I groaned and ruffled my messy hair. "Quit being a stubborn woman. I said, leave!"

"Proverbs 16 verse 18, pride goes before destruction and an haughty spirit before fall," she exclaimed.

Napairap ako, saka tumalikod at nag-walk out. "I don't have time listening to your Bible lessons!"
