/35/ HE ANSWERED ME

Lord, thou hast heard
the desire of the humble,
thou wilt prepare their heart,
thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.

KHEL'S POV

"So hear me when I say, God loves you. If I tend to leave you, He won't and will never," she said that worsened my temper.

"Won't leave me? That God?!" I laughed with sarcasm. I am stupidly amazed. "Ni wala nga 'ata Siya sa aking pakealam! I lost my family, Meera! Now I'm losing you! What do you expect me to do? Thank your God that is hardly existing?! Pinapatawa mo ba 'ko?"

Meera lowered her head and closed her eyes. "You still don't get it, Khel."

"Then let me get it!" I argued. "I asked that God a simple question, Meera! A f*cking simple question! Kung totoo ba Siya? Why can't He answer me?! Why can't I hear His voice? If He loves me, He'll reveal Himself to me! If He loves me, He'll let me know that He's near me! BUT NO!"

Umiling ako, saka bumuga ng hangin dahil sa sobrang inis.

"D*mn..." napapaos na angil ko. "One simple question... Why can't He answer me? Is He true? He never did give me a chance to hear His yes."

"Khel..."

"I CAN'T BELIEVE A GOD THAT DO NOT EXIST---"

"Take this," she cuts me off. Muli niyang inilahad sa akin ang kaniyang Bible.

I rolled my eyes and groaned. "I said---"

"Yes, I'm dying, Khel. At least in this body," she said and met my gaze. "Until then, I promised that I will make you believe in Him. So, this is the least thing I can do... To give you His Words. His Salvation."

I can't find a word to say. Her eyes were locked on mine, then she smiled.

"Take the Bible, Khel. Read it, believe it, lived with it... and be saved."

And she grabs my wrist, placing the Bible on my hand. Wala akong nagawa kun'di ang tanggapin ito. Habang hawak ang Bibliya, nakatitig lang ako rito at nakakunot ang noo.

Umiling ako. "I... still don't get it..."

"Take care of it, Khel." After she said that, after giving me her book, she smiled at me. A sad and yet hopeful smile, with eyes glistened of tears.
