She always felt the need to escape.

To find a place,

That was not currently  where she was.

She always felt the urge,

To jump right off of mountains and cliffs.

So she could finally feel something real,

Even though it was toxic.

She wanted to drift far away,

Far from her current standing point.

This wasn't a normal escape plan.

She was a prison,

Her soul  locked up in her ribcage.

Her words losing meaning,

Day by day.

She wanted to escape from herself,

And become a new person.

She wanted to break a new shell.

She wanted to become,

Something different.

This was all that was in her head.

She wanted to escape.

By any means necessary.

They claimed it was Drapetomania,

The mental illness given to a slave,

Every time one tried to escape.

She tried to escape herself,

But she was enslaved to her body.

Her mind yearning an escape.

Her Drapetomania was,

Holding her in place.

Pushing her off the edge.

She needed to escape.

But is it possible for one,

To escape oneself?
