Hugo kneeled to the ground, hugging himself as he wished for that soft and gentle hands of Elise to reach out to him. He should have reached out for it when she did but he also knew that it was better that way.

It would hurt less for Elise.

It would hurt less for him.

But why was he hurting so much? Why was he crying out for her? Why was he wishing for her to come back?

Hugo knew that loving her was a losing game.

And yet he couldn't stop loving her. He couldn't stop.

He couldn't stop crying his heart out for her. Hugo looked at the empty space where Elise had been standing, looking at him in utter disbelief.

Hugo chuckled humorlessly as he thought of it. Elise must have thought that he would come with her. She was an idiot. She was such an idiot.

She was such a...

She was his moon.

She was his precious moon.

Elise was the one who accepted her when he was shit, they exchanged letters everyday because they were idiotic friends who had turned into best friends.

Hugo knew her secrets as she knew his.

Elise was his moon.

Did he regret saving her? No, he didn't. Did he regret telling her goodbye? No, he didn't.

Because it was time to say goodbye.

He needed to say goodbye, Elise needed to hear it so that she could move on. So that she could find someone better, so that she could smile again without the guilt weighing her down.

But it would hurt because he would watch her as the moon, he would look as she would find someone that would love her for who she was while he waits in a field of flowers for her to come back and embrace him as he bask in her warmth.

But that would only take an hour or two before he would have to say goodbye again and watch her move on with her life as the uncrowned king again.

Hugo cried, he wailed, as he longed for Elise's time.

Their time was too short. He loved her too late and realized it too late.

When she smiled at him when she first came in heaven, when her beautiful blue eyes twinkled like the stars, when her smile was surrounded by beautiful flowers, he knew.

He knew that Elise was the most breathtaking flower compared to the field of it that surrounded them.

But there wasn't enough time to say goodbye.

When Euphoria told him that he was supposed to be her mate, he was overjoyed but it dimmed because he realized that he became her mate at the wrong time.

Maybe in another life.

Maybe, he could be. In another life, he would be okay.

But in this life, Elise was the one who got away.

Hugo's family was so tired of hearing how he talked about Elise but he feels sorry for them because they'll never know Elise the way he did.

Hugo chuckled again, wiping his tears that blurred his vision.

He remembered the time where he was writing his letter, his last letter to Elise.

He hope that she will receive it.

Elise.

I may be an idiot and insensitive but I wasn't an idiot for choosing you as a friend. I'm writing this because it's almost my birthday and I'm hoping that you would come.

I would love for you to come.

Elise, let me be honest.

Elise, out of every flower in a beautiful, breathtaking meadow of it, you're my favorite. Whenever I look at you, my breath gets taken away.

Elise, no matter what happens, just know that no matter what life it is, I'll be there for you, I'll do idiotic, crazy things with you, and I'll even get myself stab with a knife just so you could live. I hope you would be the same (except for the knife thing because between you and me, I'll fucking sacrifice myself if I have to save your idiotic ass).

Ah, you may think of me as cheesy but you've become such an important person in my life and I wouldn't want to lose you.

Elise, I want you to know that I'll have your back no matter what.

And I want you to know that I'll always stay beside you no matter what.

And all I know is that loving you is worth the trouble.

That was his letter before he died and he threw it away.
