"Ow!"

Kieran looked up and saw Elise sitting on a weeping willow branch, looking surprised to see him.

A soft gentle breeze flew past them as they stared at each other for a moment. The only sound available were the soft rustling of the leaves.

"What are you doing here?" He asked,  wondering why the little girl was outside alone on a cold weather. He internally cursed himself for sounding icy as the weather though.

He didn't smell the fear in Elise though despite of what he did.

Instead, the little girl was looking at him with an amused expression, a little smile was plastered softly on her face as she looked down at him.

"I could ask you the same thing." She answered, making him sigh. Of course she will answer in that manner. Elise really had no poise and was not beaming in a lady-like manner that most children of her age would have.

As far as he had observed Elise, the young one was reckless and stupidly fearless, she has no filter when saying things she wanted and was depicted as honesty. He doesn't understand how her mind works.

"Did you just throw an acorn at me?"

Elise beamed like the eternal light of the sun. It made him wavered a bit, taken aback by her expression.

"Mhmm!"

"Where did you find one in the first place?" He mumbled, confused.

He was sure that the barrier around the mansion was secured and strict. No animal big or small can enter it.

Elise shrugged. "I don't know. A stupid squirrel threw it at me."

Kieran must check the barrier as soon as possible if there were a little animal on the loose.

But for now, he will entertain the young one.

Kieran snorted. "A squirrel? Threw it at you? As in the small animal?"

Elise nodded, immediately pouting. "Yes! That stupid little dude's going to be dead when I find it."

"You must be deluding yourself." He exclaimed, shaking his head.

Elise chuckled. "I haven't lost my marbles, sir."

"Marbles?"

She playfully grinned at him. "That's for me to know and you to find out."

He paused, silence immediately passing between them but then he suddenly raised a brow. "Well?"

She titled her head to the side in confusion. "Well, what?"

"Where's my apology?"

She scoffed, crossing her arms. "The squirrel didn't even apologize to me, why should I do the same?"

"Because it's the right thing to do." He exclaimed calmly.

Elise rolled her eyes. "You know what's not right? I think I just remembered the acorn thrower smirking at me."

Smirking?

Kieran sighed, defeated.

Of course he could not force Elise to apologize.

"Elise."

"Kieran." She challenged, unaware of what effect she gave him. She called his name for the first time and a wave of electricity made its way through him like the strong waves of an ocean.

"Must we do this?" Kieran asked in irritation.

She scowled. "You started it!"

"Well, I hope that you won't throw a rock at me next time." He said sarcastically.
