Never Too Busy

After another successful escape from the Empire, the Marauder needed some work as well as a restock on all supplies.

Omega climbed down from her room. She was tired of playing with her trooper doll, now bored out of her mind. She wondered what the rest of the batch were up to. She made her way up to the front of the ship, passing Hunter who was intensely focused on star charts, not even noticing her walk by.

"If you had properly fixed the rear shields before the mission, perhaps the ship wouldn't require so much attention," Tech quipped from the cockpit.

"I didn't have enough time to complete the repairs," Echo snapped back with irritation. "You should be thanking me. If I didn't check them at all, we would most likely be dead."

"That wouldn't have been a possibility if you actually fixed it," he stated again, turning his back on the fuming reg.

"If it will make you stop complaining, I'll go work on it now!" Echo shouted, storming out of the pit, running into the youngest batcher.

"Sorry, Omega," he quickly apologized, brushing past her.

"Wait, Echo," Omega ran to catch up with him, making him stop and turn. "Could I help you?"

"Er, I'm not sure. You kinda need one of these to, uh do the procedure." He lifted up his metal arm. "But maybe Mr. Knowitall could use your assistance," he said, giving her a pat on the back.

Omega nodded, entering the cockpit. Tech seemed to be adjusting something with his helmet. He didn't look like he needed help. Omega opened her mouth to ask, but decided not to pester him with questions when he was working.

She sighed, stepping out on the ramp. Wrecker was just about to leave on a supply run. Maybe she could go with him.

"Wrecker?" she asked the strong clone. "Can I go with you to the market?"

Wrecker looked down at the kid with wide pleading eyes. As much as he wanted to say yes to her, Hunter had ordered that she not be allowed to leave the ship's premises for a while, on the account that they had just encountered yet another bounty hunter.

"Sorry, 'Mega. Remember you have to stay here. If it were up to me I would say yes, but you heard the Sarge." He ruffled her hair before leaving.

"Bye," she mumbled as he disappeared, trudging back towards the ship. She felt so useless. Everyone had their share of work to contribute, but her. She wanted to help, but was either not allowed to or able to do so.

Omega sat on the ramp, picking up a stick that was stuck between one of the steps. She tried to twirl it in her hand like she had seen Hunter do many times before with his knife. Eventually she gave up and resorted to waiting for Wrecker to return, her knees tucked up to her chest with her head resting on them.

Hunter sat back further in the chair. He had been trying to figure out a plan to free another clone that Rex had asked them to rescue. Except this planet's terrain was questionable, not to mention the new blockade that was just added, making it near impossible. He grumbled to himself, subconsciously reaching for his vibro-knife. He only sat up when he heard light footsteps behind him.

He watched as Omega, shoulder's hunched, going back to the gunner's mount. He silently followed, climbing up as she started to close the curtain. He gently tapped the metal as a way of knocking.

Omega poked her head out. "Oh, hi Hunter. Do you need something?" she asked with a little more enthusiasm than he expected.

"No, not right now. I was just checking up on you." He watched as her face fell for a split second.

"I'm fine," she said, but her face said otherwise. Hunter paused for a moment. He thought back to their time with Cut and Suu. Now that he was dwelling on it, Cut's children were always off doing something. Playing with each other or an object. Omega didn't have other children to play with and her only toy being a stolen trooper doll.

"Hunter, are you okay?" The blonde girl questioned when he stopped talking for a brief time period.

Hunter shook his head. "Yeah. Uh, if you're not too busy, I might have something for you to do."

"I'm not busy," Omega said quickly. "What is it?"

"Come over here." He started down the ladder, Omega on his heels as they went back over to the body of the ship.

He pulled out his knife, fingering it in his hand. He hadn't been oblivious whenever she would watch him doing tricks with it. He found it perfect timing to teach her. He placed the cover on the blade before handing it to her.

"I get to learn how to twirl it!?" A smile grew on her face as she took the small weapon.

"I figured it's about time you learn something cool from me," Hunter chuckled softly. "Alright, first make sure you have a loose grip on the handle..." He talked her through the steps and fingering positions. It took a while, but before Wrecker even got back, she was able to perform a few tricks.

"I'm just like you!" the child laughed as she demonstrated the moves over and over again.

"Sooner or later, you'll be even better than me," he complimented, making her blush.

His heart warmed at her joy. He only wished that he was able to give her the life she deserved everyday and not just a few. When the galaxy settles down, he will make sure she gets a real room and he will buy her as many toys as she asks for. As long as she was happy, he would be too.

Ok, this is rly random but two days ago I was rly bored so I decided why not try and learn some SW music. I wanted to find some Bad Batch sheet music, but all that came up was piano stuff which has cords that I can't rly translate that. So I took it upon myself to listen to the sound track and I wrote down the notes from ear (I play clarinet, but it would work with any Bflat instrument), so now I have TBB theme+Omega's that I can play whenever I want. This is my only accomplishment this summer😂
