You didn't like talking on the phone. There were several reasons why, but one was your voice. You thought it sounded weird, too masculine, despite your efforts to get it to a higher pitch. Even if you attempted to strain your voice, it never seemed high enough.

Jake, on the other hand, loved to call you, and it was obvious when you received the 10th phone call form him that day.

"What do you want Jake?" You asked, answering it.

"To talk to you. Do you think blue or yellow looks better on a car?"

You sighed. "Jake, you know I hate talking on the phone, why do you always do it?"

"I don't know, I'm just more of a talk on the phone kind of guy."

"No, because Amy said you text her religiously."

"Pssh, she must be thinking about the wrong Jake."

"Captain Holt has also called me in to decipher some of your texts, especially when you send chain texts."

"That's weird, maybe someone steals my phone in the middle of the day to text Cap and Amy."

"Gina said you've been texting like that ever since you got a phone."

"Okay, fine, the truth is..."

"What?"

"I sometimes call you because I like your voice."

"You like my voice?"

"Yeah, is that weird?"

"I mean...why do you like my voice? It sounds weird."

"No it doesn't...it sounds nice."

"How?"

"I don't know, it just does."

"But it sounds masculine."

"No it doesn't."

"..."

"Okay, maybe sometimes it drops a little, but I still like listening to it."

"Really?"

"What?"

"That's really why you only call me?"

"I don't only call you."

"Who else do you call?"

"It doesn't matter, I have called other people before."

"Not as much as me, though?"

"I don't know, how would I know?"

"If I ask—"

"No, no, no need to do that, I'm sure they'd say that I call just as much as I text."

"But I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to double check."

"Uh, I don't know, it might, you're cutting out, I'll see you later."
