The Blind Side

In the morning I awoke to find,

that the sun was shining but I was blind.

For darkness was all that I could see,

and this brought on much misery.

What purpose has the day if you cannot see the sun?

And what purpose have your legs if you cannot walk or run?

Not even the scent of summer can compete,

because without my eyes I am not complete.

As afternoon came I was startled to see,

my sight had returned and come back to me.

Now everything that I see, from the trees to the birds,

they speak out to me much louder than words.

Now I can once more see my mum and my dad,

and for this blessing, I am truly glad.

Never before have I ever praised the sun,

and never before have I had so much fun.

As the evening rolled in I laid on my bed,

eyes on the moon that looked back at my weary head.

But never before have I not wished to sleep,

to miss so much, it could bring me to weep.

How sad it is that we must sleep through the night,

with its silouette of wonder that does burn so bright.
