Death in War

The war is upon us and soon I'll be dead,

Others will be smiling, but some without a head.

So this shall be a night of laughter and joy,

Sharpening my sword like a kid with a toy.

Some of these faces may never return,

And this is a lesson that all of us must learn.

We are the soldiers that fight for our home,

A band of blood brothers, we're never alone.

Let us drink wine and speak up a prayer,

Come morning light, you may not be there.

Tomorrow our enemy will face us at last,

Our future is bleak, so let's think of the past.

Back to a time when war was for the old,

Now I feel its breath, and it feels ice cold.

So take up your spear and aim its point true,

Cut down your enemy, like he'll cut down you.

To kill a man in battle, has never been a sin,

It's one of those situations we find ourselves in.

You would do the same if your life were on the line,

But with our demise, a mortal becomes divine.

My name will last after my bones become dust,

And that's why it's death in which I place all my trust.

Our lives are fragile, and could end any time,

But if I should fall, hen my death is sublime.
