Starting Over

Chapter 35

"Tris, are you almost ready?" Tobias asks from our bedroom. Today at lunch Zeke asked us to come over to his house for a game of Candor or Dauntless. Right now we're getting ready to go over to his place.

"Almost," I call back. I decided to wear a T-shirt, a tank top, Tobias' hoodie, and jeans.

When I finish pulling my hair back I walk out of the bathroom and see Tobias waiting for me. We walk to Zeke's together and when we get there Christina is the only one missing. I bet she had some kind of fashion emergency. We wait for a while but she's already 15 minutes late.

"I'm done waiting. Tris, Candor or Dauntless?" Zeke asks.

"Dauntless."

"Go into my room and grab the first article of clothes you see, then put it on. You have to wear it the rest of the game."

I sigh and get up. I mean really, how hard could this be? Zeke and Uriah follow me. When I open the door the first thing I see is a pair of Zeke's socks. I pick them up and slide them on so they're over my jeans. Both Zeke and Uriah burst out laughing.

"These better be clean," I tell Zeke as we go back to join the others.

"You don't want to know," he whispers back. I cringe and he laughs even harder. "Of course they're clean! I'm not that mean, Tris!"

When I walk back into the room everyone but Tobias starts laughing. Tobias looks slightly annoyed. I decide to ignore it for now. He'll get over it. I also notice that Christina finally showed up.

"Uriah, Candor or Dauntless?" I ask.

"Dauntless."

"I dare you to go confess your undying love for Tori." His face turns red and he grabs his shirt sleeve. "What is that?" I ask. "Are you a Pansycake? Do we need to start calling you a Pansycake? We can arrange that, you know."

I don't really enjoy using the word Pansycake, but he taunts us with it all the time and he needs a taste of his own medicine. Plus I really want to see him tell Tori that he loves her.

"Fine!" he sighs. We all follow him toward Tori's office. We wait outside when he goes in.

"Tori, you really must know something," we hear Uriah say.

"Really? And what's that?" Tori asks. She sounds a little annoyed and amused.

"I love you Tori! I always have! Even if you don't feel it too I'll love you forever! Try whatever you want, but I'll never leave your side! Even if you don't love me back you need to know how I feel! I'll never stop loving you!"

We see the figure that must be Tori pull Uriah's face down and kiss him. We weren't expecting that. A second later they pull apart.

"Now continue with your game of Candor or Dauntless. I'll see you later."

Uriah comes out looking slightly scarred. We make it a few steps before Tori opens the door and clears her throat.

"Uriah," she calls. "I know you're joking. I just wanted to mess with you. Next time leave me out of your dares."
Uriah looks really relieved.

"So, how was kissing Tori?" Marlene asks.

"Very awkward," Uriah replies. We can tell he really doesn't want to talk about this so being the good friends we are we won't let it go.

"Common, you know you enjoyed it!" Zeke practically shouts.

"No! It was weird!" Uriah shouts back.

"You looked like you were enjoying it," Lynn says in a serious voice.

"How? By looking disgusted?"
