The question he asked hung in the air like thick smoke. He'd pulled his hand away. I stood there for a solid minute in utter shock. I should have known this was likely, the doctor had told me, but I didn't think it would happen to Spike.

"I'm your wife." I said smiling slightly.

"You're my wife? I must have gotten pretty lucky then." He said.

I chuckled, "I think so also." Then asked, "What do you remember?"

"I'm an officer for the Strategic Response Unit. I'm on team one...uh...my name is Michelangelo Scarlatti. Can I go home now?" He asked. The way he asked it was childlike, like he was asking a parent.

"No Spikey. Not yet. You have to get better. You got hurt." I said.

"Can I see Srg. Parker?" He asked.

That question cut me like a knife. He could remember his boss, but not his own wife? I clenched my jaw and nodded. I wasn't going to cry now. No, that could come later. "I'll be right back." I muttered out, then left to head back to the main lobby. Everyone else was still there when I came back in.

"How is he?" My father asked.

"He remembers the team and you, boss." I said trying to hide the hurt in my voice.

"But? I sense a but coming." Ed said.

"He doesn't remember me. I don't know his overall state right now. I just. He wants to see you, dad. The rest of you can go see him too. I'll stay here."

That's when I was enveloped in a hug. Not just by Ed, but my whole team, including my father.

"We will get through this as a team okay? Ed why don't you stay here with her, I'll go see Spike and then be back. The rest of you can come in one at a time after that." The boss said.

I nodded slowly and grabbed some coffee, even though it was eleven at night, I didn't want to go to sleep. I didn't want to leave Spike, or deal with my own feelings. I really just didn't want to go home and sleep alone in a empty bed.

It had been 48 hours since the explosion. I sat by Spike's bedside, reading over the latest news reports. It was either that, or just staring at him awkwardly while he slept. When he did sleep, his expression was a peaceful one. It reminded me of the man who remembered me, who cared for me. I prayed that his memories would fully come back. The doctor reassured me constantly that he thought Spike would regain all his memories slowly. He had retrograde amnesia currently due to the concussion.

Ed came in after a while and looked me over. "You need sleep, a shower, and to eat something." He stated.

"I had breakfast." I argued.

"Yeah, yesterday morning. The only time I've seen you get up since then is to go the bathroom."

"Ed. I can't leave him."

"Jules can watch over him for a while. I'm taking you home for a while."

"Ed. Please, I can't go home." I practically begged.

He nodded slowly after a minute of silence, "Alright. You can come to my place. Sophie is  going to make lunch."
