Brittney
I stared at Nate’s mom in shock and at a complete loss of words.
Finally, Nate asked quietly, “What did she have to say?”
“She want to talk to both of you,” his mom answered.
“Did she give any indication as to why she wants to talk to us,” I asked while I
sat down at the snack bar.
“Brittney, you don’t look good,” Nate said worriedly.
“I don’t feel good,” I muttered. “Do you think she knows?”
“It’s a possibility,” Nate’s mom said.
“But how could she have found out,” Nate asked starting to freak out.
“Nate, calm down,” I told him.
“Who knows how she found out if that is the reason for her wanting to talk to
both of you,” his mom said.
“Either way she’s just going to yell at me and stress me out more so I’m not
going to talk to her,” I told them. I couldn’t have too much stress in my life,
especially right now.
“What if she’s going to try to offer her help,” Nate asked.
“When have you ever known her to want to help me? We haven’t talked or

in my life and that’s her own gosh dang fault.”
“Brittney, I didn’t mean it like that,” he defended himself.
“Then what the heck did you mean by that,” I shouted. At that, I totally lost it
and started crying. My mom would be the kind of person to yell at me for
getting pregnant even though she had Abigail when she was only seventeen.
“Hey, it’s okay,” Nate tried comforting me.
“How can you say that,” I shouted hysterically. “Do you not see this right now?
I’m tired of crying all the freaking time!”
“Brittney,” Nate’s mom said coming to stand by Nate and me, “it is going to
get better. The mood swings you keep having will soon be very small and very
far apart. I guess what I’m saying is that you’re not going to be miserable
forever. I know it will be hard for you to talk to your mom, but you’re going to
have to. No matter how much you dislike her, she has a right to know that
biologically she’s going to be a grandma. Just think, if she wasn’t your mom
you most likely wouldn’t be here today. Come on, I’ll call her back and set up
a dinner time for tomorrow night. I’ll go with you guys so that we can leave as
