Happy Birthday, Ruth Today!
The clock strikes and November 3
fades away
A new morning, and the sun dazzles me awake
Why does it shine brighter and cheerier this day?
Perhaps to tell me, it's Ruth Elaine's birthday today!
Ruth Elaine, as her name would tell
Is a companion, in every sad and well
In every joy and woe you have to tell
We keep up our smiles and hearts because she's there
"I'm looking for Ruth, have you seen her, you?"
"Then go where there's sadness and work that is due"
"For there is no doubt and I'm sure it's true"
"She's there where there's love to give and work to do"
"Her smile would remind you of the sun"
"That despite many clouds and rains, never fails to shine"
"And would always tell you, 'keep heart there, dear one'"
"For in every hurt, there's hope for everyone"
November 4, the sun keeps shining bright
I put down my pen to buy the gift she'll like
As I trudged along upon this sunny day
I sing "Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Ruth, today!"

I wrote this for a friend back in November 2010. She was the first friend I ever made in high school. I really admire this person and I am happy that our friendship survived the years.
