"There is a fleeting moment - five or ten seconds, half a minute, or a full minute? - I am not sure how long. It is a moment of silence that has its own beat, it's own rhythm, it's own sound. It reminded me of the pause that precedes the falling of a leaf, the ripple of water, the rising of the sun as night turns to day - seemingly both slow and fast, a stop where there is also movement, the tip of the end that is the birth of the beginning, unstoppable and irreversible. It is the pivotal moment where our hesitations melted into certainty, the moment when our heartbeats became one as we found answers in each other's eyes, a fleeting moment when we suddenly learned to be brave - and then it was gone and his lips were one with mine.
