At 12pm on saturday i received a text from cole.

Private number: The date you acqueised to, let's do it today

Private number: there's a pleasant looking brand new ice cream place I've noticed

Private number: I heard they have a wide range of delectable ice cream

Private number: 2pm, I'll pick you up

Private number:you just tell me where to drive to

I groaned in indignation, deciding to text him the address of the busstop, no way was I about to bestow him with knowledge of my house address.I moseyed towards my mom's room, and flopped down beside her on the bed. She looked up from her phone's screen and adressed me with an inquisitive look.

"Mom, uhm, my friend and I, we're going to this new ice cream place" I said in what I hoped was a cool manner. A part of me yearned for her to negate the idea so I'd have an excuse not to go but the rational part of me knew it was an inane thought.

She graced me with a knowing grin"it's a guy isn't it?"

"Yeah, but it's not what you think, he's just a friend" I tittered nervously

"What's his name?"

"It's Cole"

"Do I get to meet him?" She interrogated

"Uhm, I actually told him to meet me at the busstop. Maybe some other time" I hoped there'd be no other time

"Is he cute ? Is he tall? Does he have abs? Is he sporting a beard?" She fired rapidly

"Mom!!!" I protested

"Is he from your school?"

"Yes Mom, he is"

"And here i was worrying that you'd hate the school, you do like it don't you?" She gawked at me fretfully

"Yes, I do" I gave her a winning smile

"That's awesome" she beamed then frowned suddenly

"There's something I need to tell you" she articulated refusing to meet my eyes

"What is it?" I was eager to know

"Well I didn't want to divulge this to you before now because I wasn't confident you'd fancy your new school and I didn't want you to feel pressurized to"

"What's that?" I pressed

"The fees for your school had already been paid by your uncle Hunter prior to his demise. my only guess as to why he did was that he loved the school a lot and wanted his daughter to attend, unfortunately she died along with her mother in a crash"

"How old was she?" I inquired

"I think fourteen or fifteen, your uncle married late,"

she paused then continued as though as an afterthought "well late, in comparison to my marriage."

"Oh" was all I could manage, I was still trying to wrap my head around this new piece of information.

"Please don't think this is an attempt on my part to force you into staying at this school. If at any time you begin to hate the school, I'll take you away from there and enroll you into any school of your choice." The promise in her voice clear

"No, I'm good, I like the school" I said in what I hoped was a convincing manner

"You're looking gloomy, has the news put a downer on your mood? I'm sorry" she phrased looking guilty
