Cole plunked into the couch next to me before handing over the fancily packaged food he'd ordered to me "Here you go."
"Thank you." I smiled appreciatively before asking in a tone laden with puzzlement
"Where's your mom?"
"Probably sleeping or something. Why? My presence isn't exciting enough?" Cole placed his knuckle on his chin regarding me with a contemplative look
"Uhm, we've been here for over an hour now and she hasn't showed up." I shrugged before scooping up a spoonful of rice
"Enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts." Cole advised with a perceptive smile
"She's kind of funny though." I replied after I'd swallowed the mouthful I had been chomping on.
"Yeah, sure." He snorted incredulous
"I'm actually being serious." I insisted. Although his mother sometimes made me feel nervous, she was actually hilarious in some ways.
Cole didn't't reply, he rose from the couch and strode out quietly instead. I stared at his retreating back startled. Was he peeved? The mystery was unraveled when he returned a few seconds later with a glass of orange juice almost filled to the brim.
He flashed me a grin and placed the glass on the table before me "Here, have a glass of orange juice."
"I'm actually not thirsty." I declined politely, ladling my spoon with as much rice as it could scoop up.
"Just take a sip." He insisted with a persuasive smile
I definitely wasn't going to do it, not with the mischievous way he was smiling at me.
"I'm good, thanks for the offer though." I chuckled apprehensively
"You don't need to take much from it, just an itsy-bitsy sip to know how it tastes." He encouraged
"No honestly, I'm fine." I assured
"It has a life-changing taste. I swear. Just take a little nip from it." He pressed
"No, did you do something funny to the drink?" I asked curiously
He placed his right palm on his chest and feigned an exaggerated look of agony "you're hurting my feelings."
"You're being really persistent, I just honestly find it quite strange." I confessed
"I would never do anything to compromise your drink, you should know this by now." Cole complained reaching for the drink and taking a swig
"Oh, I apologise." I replied quickly, before stuffing my mouth full with food.
"Do you have money on you?" He probed
"Yes, a little bit of cash." I admitted, it was emergency money. Wherever I went the money went.
"Good, I'll show you where you'll get your drinks and water." He smiled helpfully
"There are no drinks or water in the house?" I questioned mind filled with skepticism. Something wasn't adding up.
"Wouldn't want to risk you taking in compromised drinks, liv." Cole took a tormentingly unhurried gulp of his drink. I swallowed down saliva covertly, I was beginning to feel thirsty.
"But I apologized." I gave him a disconcerted look
"You said ''i apologize" not "I'm sorry". There's a gigantic difference." Cole explained
