The ball wheezed past the goal keepers outstretched hands missing his finger tips by just a hair breath and smashed into the anticipatory arms of the white nets. The thought that scurried to the forefront of my mind was simple, my mom was definitely going to murder me.

Cole had won the deal thereby unsealing another level of complication I hadn't wholly given ample thought to, getting permission for a sleepover with Cole from my mom. A part of me had automatically assumed that I'd emerge triumphant.

I was temporarily distracted by the students from our school ascending from their seats with booming chants and cheers as some dashed onto the fields to hug the perspiring but ecstatic players.

Cole had a conspicuosly humongous grin on his face "now, we can leave."

"I guess so." I sighed begining to reflect deeply on how everything would play out from here onward.

"Wanna celebrate?" He beamed

"No." Why would I want to celebrate? I'd obviously lost the deal.

"Aww, c'mon don't be such a sour pansy." He teased pinching my cheeks slightly

"I'm not being sour." I replied failing to hide my exasperation

"Yes, you are and i'm not even rubbing my victory in your face." Cole hooked his arm with mine briskly and began to strategically pull me through the crowd of people

"So many fucking people, it's bloody disgusting." Cole mumbled to himself but the wind blew it directly into my ears. I gave him a side of look of disapproval before getting into the car and taking a seat.

As soon as we'd both gotten strapped into our seat belts, he turned to me with a thoughtful look "how come I've never heard you speak about your dad?."

"Oh, it's because he doesn't live with us, my mom filed for a divorce." I explained taken aback by the question

"Oh, what does he do for a living?" He asked begining to drive

"He's into real estate management." I answered curious on where he was headed with this.

"He's the one who got you your house then?" Cole questioned

"No, they were divorced long before we even got the house. It was left to us in a will." I explained tearing my eyes from the window to give him a perplexed stare

"A will?" He looked confused

"By my uncle. Why're you asking all these questions all of a sudden?" I wondered aloud

"I want to know more about my in-laws." He retorted straight facedly

"Huh?" I blurted, pretty sure my ears were playing tricks on me.

"Because everything about you is interesting to me." He alleged

"Cheesy jerk." I muttered to myself

"I'm not being cheesy, I'm being genuine." Cole asserted

"You have supernatural hearing?" I couldn't stop myself from asking

"You're just terrible at muttering to yourself." Cole smirked

"About the sleepover, are we genuinely going to do it?" I asked knowing darn well what his answer would be but hoping for the opposite. The hassle of getting permission to go was seriously unappealing to me.

"Yuppp, a deal's a deal." He nodded

"You're going to get me killed." I lamented dramatically

"How'd you mean?" He took his eye off the road, his voice taking on a marginally alarmed pitch.
