Magnus
꧁__________________________꧂

Magnus had practice in putting on a smile and sounding cheerful, even when he wasn't. But the technique had stopped working with Alec a long time ago. It felt good that his husband knew him so well but sometimes he wished he could hide some emotions from him, just to not worry him.

He had told Alec only the brief information about Max, wanting him to catch the overall gist before he would dive into the complicated details.

He and Catarina had found out about a certain species, a few days ago once they had decoded the word which named them. They hadn't dared to translate it yet. A few days ago, they had found out about a species after decoding the word that named them.

In the ancient language, these magical beings were called Akasth. Magnus would have translated it with sky or cloud but Catarina said it was more flood or rain, no matter which one they chose, it would all fit Max, and that matter had worried him all day.

He wished he could just be happy because his beautiful man had brought him flowers and remembered his favel for these specifically dramatic ones. And because his soon-to-be-son had said his first word, just by seeing Alec. Daddy. He felt his insights fill with warmth, a warmth he needed during those dark days.

Somewhere in the back of his head, he knew that this could end badly. What if they weren't allowed to adopt him? However, there was no particular reason why the Clave would do such thing unless they found out that Max wasn't a warlock. He wouldn't let them find out.

"You should sit down, my love." He told his husband, who already seemed a bit pale, and pat his shoulder.

At least he was all healthy and hadn't gotten into a fight today, one worry less for Magnus

They sat down on the sofa, Max had fallen asleep in Alec's arms. Catarina seated herself in her big fluffy armchair and crossed her legs. The book laid on the glass table in front of them and Magnus could tell that Alec was getting nervous. That's why he took his hand in his and brushed his thumb over the other's palm.

"How bad is it?" Alec asked and looked at his husband with a deep frown on his face.

Magnus wouldn't lie, not to Alec and the father of his child, at least almost.

"Pretty bad." He admitted. Alec looked at him expectantly and Magnus sighed, giving his friend a little nod.

Catarina cleared her throat and opened the book.

Most of the pages were still full of foreign symbols but some of them were readable letters now. Others had turned out to be placeholders for pictures and once the Warlocks had unriddled them, they had put them back together into the images they had once been.
