I'd recommend listening to Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac for this chapter xx

The boys sit around the table and wait for the phone call.

"I'll go upstairs," I tell them.

"No, stay, it's as much your house as ours," Conrad says.

I nod and down next to him, waiting for the ring. The last phone call I received was about a month ago, it came early in the morning. I should've known it was bad news. Bad news is the only that can't wait.

We are all sat on the benches in the church, everyone sobbing while the pastor finishes off his eulogy. It's all as I expect until Conrad walks to the front.

He grabs a guitar and positions it correctly.

"This is the song she always asked me to play for her."

'Where Oh where, could my baby be?'

'The lord took her, away from me.'

'She's gone to heaven so I got to be good.'

'So I can see my baby when I leave this world.'

My eyes, which were dry before, are flooding, and one single tear streams down my cheek.

He carries on humming, I look at him sadly and he tilts his head up, his eyes looking directly into mine.

As he looks at me, his voice breaks briefly before he jumps back in and finishes his song.

I will not let that boy out of my sight for the rest of the day.

When the funeral is over, we head to the reception and I look around for Con.

Belly gets a plate of food for Jere and she and Steven find him together.

"How are you doing M and M?" My dad asks, in his usual stupid way.

"I'm fine." I smile. "Have you seen Conrad?"

"Yeah, I think he's in the rec room."

"Cool, thanks, Dad."

I go upstairs with some food for Connie.

"Hey." I knock on the door but see him lying on a girl's lap.

"Is that for us?" She asks.

I nod and place it down, leaving the room but Conrad follows straight after me.

"Y/N wait." He stops me halfway down the stairs.

"What?"

"Eminem that was just Aubrey."

"I'm sorry for interrupting."

"She was helping me."

"You'll let her help you but won't let me?" I choke up.

"Grow up Y/N."

My chest tightens.

"Don't tell me to grow up." I barely get it out when my throat starts to feel like it's closing up.

"I should've known you would've been like this."

I put my hand on my heart and don't reply.

"I knew it was a bad idea starting something with you."

I shake my head as my breathing quickens.

"I don't believe you."

"It was a big, big, mistake."
