When he was young, Fujiwara Ao was happy.

Compared to how he is now,
the child that he was almost seemed to be a different person.

Before, everything was still fine.

Before, he believed nothing could give him sadness.

Before, to his eyes,
the world was kind and filled with warmth.

Fujiwara Ao loved everyone and everything.

And in return, he was also loved back.

But this was before, of course.

・・・ ii ・・・

Once, Fujiwara Ao had a loving mother and father.

Back then, the three of them were always together.

Always smiling.

Always laughing.

Always together.

His mother and father were gentle and caring.

For Ao, they were the most important people in the world.

They were the picture of a happy family.

・・・ iii ・・・

When he was still a boy, Ao asked his mother a question.

"Mom, when I grow up, will you still be by my side?"

He was still six years old then.

They had been in the living room.

His mother was reading a novel on the sofa.

She placed it down and looked at him with a gentle expression.

She smiled.

"Well, that's depends, Ao.
Would you like mom to be there?"

"Of course!" he declared, nodding.

In that moment Ao's father appeared from the hallway, wearing his suit.

He had just arrived from work.

"Hmm... Are you two planning something without me?" he asked. "What about dad, Ao?"

Ao's face lit up.

He ran as his father bent down for a hug.

"Welcome home!"

Ao laughed.

"Dad also! I'm going to make a big house where the three of us are together. Just wait!"

His father laughed. He looked at his wife.

"Kiyoko, you hear that?"

Fujiwara Kiyoko smiled gently and nodded.

"We'll look forward to it then, Ao," she said. "In the meantime, me and dad promise never to go away. We'll be waiting, okay?"

Ao grinned a wide grin, eyes bright.

"Okay!"

・・・ iv ・・・

But that never happened.

On that day, fourteen years ago,
Fujiwara Kiyoko lied.

In the end, she had been the first one who disappeared.

A year later, Ao's mother left for another man.
