・・・ xvi ・・・

There was that usual darkness and silence in his room.

The only light that streamed in was from the crack between the curtains.

On the bed, he was staring at the ceiling again
Outside the window, he could see snow.

Tick.
Tock.

In those moments the world seemed so still,
broken only by the sound of his slow breathing.

His head felt light.

His body felt tired.

Everything seemed distant and numb.

Slowly, gradually, he decided to close his eyes.

"... Have a nice sleep."

・・・ xvii ・・・

I can't hear the child's cries in the dream this time.

There is still that vivid darkness.
There is still that gaping void.

When I blink, I see a small boy standing in front of me.

His back is turned, so I can't see his face.

But I know who he is.

His hair. His figure.

Leo.

・・・ xviii ・・・

—I'm scared.
I'm scared.
I'm scared.

To him, Leo's back looked so small.

Fragile.

Familiar.

Without thought, Ao reached a hand out to him,
longing to see his laughing, smiling face like before.

At the back of his mind, he knew he shouldn't.

Yet, he didn't stop.

A few inches before Ao could reach him, however, Leo whispered four words.

"—It's all your fault."

Ao turned still.

"It's all your fault."

... No.
No. I—

"—It's all your fault.
It's all your fault.
It's all your fault.
It's all your fault."

Ao stepped back, shaking his head as he covered his ear.

It was no use. He could still hear him.

Ao felt his legs start to tremble.

His mind went blank. His breathing quickened.

"It's—"

"—all—"

"—your—"

"—fault."

No. No. No. No.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry—

Ao flinched when Leo suddenly turned around to face him.

A shadow covered most of his face, hiding his eyes.

Ao saw single transparent tear trail down his cheek.

Then, filled with resentment,
Leo whispered his next words.

"—It should have been you."
