  ・・・ xxix ・・・

Ao blinked slowly.

There was no intent of malice in her tone.

No sign of pity.
No suggestion of a taunt.

She had said it naturally,
as if it was an observation she had concluded.

And she was right, of course.

Ame's expression was still in a grin.

He blinked, again.

Then, Ao suddenly laughed.

At the moment he did, Ame began to laugh as well.

For a few seconds, the two of them were surrounded by the sound of their own amusement.

When they were done, Ao shook his head and smiled a little.

"At first, I thought you were scary.
But now I know you're just an idiot."

He teased jokingly.

Ame frowned, even though her mouth was smiling.

"Hey! I'm you new big sister now, remember?"

Ao waved his hand dismissively.

"Yeah, okay."

Ame stood up and went over to him.

When she did, Ao hesitated.

But Ame didn't.

She leaned on the desk, looking at it.

"Hey... I'm curious. What have you been doing anyway?"

After that, they became closer, the way real siblings would have.

For Ao, Ame had soon become a person that he could feel at ease with.

No... even more than that.

Because of her, he had someone to talk to inside of that suffocating house again.

Because of her, he had someone he could share with whenever he found something interesting.

Because of her, he had somewhere he could go to when he felt like he needed some company.

Because of her, he didn't feel like he was invisible anymore.

Ame had become an irreplaceable person for him.

Days passed quickly.

Ao soon introduced Leo to Ame.

Because of their similar bright personalities,
the three of them began to hang out together.
